Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Dear Nintendo: DSI SD card save solution

Recently, I was sent a package containing a loaner copy of Pokemon Platinum for the Nintendo DS.

The reason why I got the loaner of Pokemon Platinum was for review purposes for my site at GamersBlock.com. In reviewing the game, I put a lot of hours into playing the game, and through that; I became quite attached to Pokemon Platinum. My time with Pokemon Platinum is coming to an end, and I will be purchasing Pokemon Platinum as soon as next week. What really irks me about Nintendo is that they haven’t implemented an alternate storage solution for their handheld systems. I would have like when I return Pokemon Platinum, that I can at least keep the save file that I created and carry it over to my purchased copy. The days of using their propriety media to hold game and save files should have been long dead on the handheld side. Even back in the 90s, I hated the fact that I would rent games that I couldn’t beat in 3-5 days and when I returned them, I ran the risk that the next person will delete my save file.

We all know the DSI contains an SD cart slot, right? I would really appreciate if Nintendo offers an alternate game save solution on SD cards for all DS and future Dsi cartridge releases ASAP! Would anyone else?

Sounds like a great idea! :)

Guitar Hero 3/ Smash Hits

just buy platinum and instead of returning the loaner copy give them the one you bought...
case closed problem solved!

hello how are you.

No, hard solution wouldn't be recommended, something server side would be much more diligent and highly recommended.

In other words your saved game saved to your account on Nintendo, access to them would allow you the ability to transfer to a registered DS or Wii, that way no one else could have access to them but the person who owned the DS or Wii linked to that account.

yeah, sounds great, but like somebody else said, just send back the new copy, keep the review copy.

Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

To: Paperdiego & blaydcor:

I never thought of that, but it is a great idea!

To: dib8rman: A server side  would be great idea, but the consumer should also have a physical solution  for their save files.

The physical solution would be the file saved on the DS or Wii, that's the reason for locking the file to either medium on that users account. However simply transferring saves willnilly on SD seems a bit too open for augmentation of the software.

Prehaps it's time Nintendo makes proprietary SD cards?

I dont think it would be good for nintendo to make an proprietary SD card when the Wii is open to accept any SD card that not over 2GB. What I dont get is that Nintendo allows an SD memory card can be used to store Wii save files, but then they made the Dsi with an SD slot, and the player cant store DS save files on an SD card.

Eh, it's 12:30 pm, I'm going home, after that it's strait to Rune Factory or sleep. SD card dilemma has been resolved, the issue about this DSi save stuff is a concern for Nintendo and those with the issue.

It's always been the case that when you lose your game, your lose it all, same with the PsX Ps2 and anything else that has to be saved on a hard medium... though I doubt someone can lose a PS3.
