Yes, Half Life 2 single player was fun. Although, I don't really care for single player modes in fps games. Except maybe ones like Deus Ex and such. But those aren't really your typical fps games. Those are rpg/fps hybrids.

Also, I would say that vehicle control on pc fps games are lacking as well. The lack of analog makes it either an off or on movement. Either turn by this much, or don't turn at all. Personal taste their though.

I loved all modes, though I love DM, Invasion, and Assault the most in UT2004. I HATE matchmaking. I want to be able to choose my server based on mutators, players, ping, etc.

LOL.  We have such diverse tastes.  I enjoy the prospect of matching different people up based on skill level.  There is no joining a game once it has started.  There is so much player churn on teams on dedicated servers.  Somewhat diminishes a win.  I enjoy the closed nature of a match in matchmaking.  Also, the next round will be a completely different set of people to play against.  And it all happens without any input from me.

It actually reinforces the idea of a team.  You see the pre-game lobby.  You see the people you are playing against.  And you can be damn sure that no one else other than those people will be playing.

That does anoy me about vehicles. However I learned how to abuse the acceleration so that if I kpee pressing W it does it just fine. Too much work still but meh.

Until they quit....

Also the amazing joy of joining when the game is more than halfway over and still dominating everyone by a 10 frag limit. Man that REALLY gets me pucmping.

LOL.  Yes, you make a valid point.  This doesn't happen all that often to me though.  Especially in ranked lists.  There are strengths and weaknesses of each type.  I just prefer the idea of matchmaking.  This could be done via dedicated servers, it would just be a lot harder to implement than P2P.

And I definitely enjoy the domination of people in a short amount of time as well.

This is a short anecdote which I rememebr so vividly and it is impossible for it to happen in ANY console shooter:

Im in the cross in Rankin , the one leading to the 100 shield the flak and the rocket launcher. 3 people come from me at those directions. I shoot an orb at the rockets, and 1 at the shield. By the blessing of luck I turn back to the rocket guy and hit my orb, 1 kill, turn to the shield dude (no shield) hit THAT orb, Double Kill, turn around switch to flak and 1 shot the guy shooting me from that side, Multi kill. Charge up 3 rockets on the way to the flak arena, shoot them at the flak and kill 1 more, Mega Kill.

That just doesn't happen in a console shooter.

While that is impressive.  Why is that not possible on consoles?  I have gotten a killionaire(kill 10 people within 4 seconds of each other) before in Halo 3.

I dont distaste them, I wouldn't review them if I didnt enjoy the funness of them, its just that comparing a PC FPS to a Console FPS and declaring a console FPS superior is a joke.

As for professional leagues, I might rejoin a clan for COD4.. idk, but I competed in way to many leagues and even CPL back in the UT04 days.

That depends completely on taste.  I grew weary of arena deathmatch games.  UT2004's Onslaught was the best part and the mode I played almost exclusively.  Perhaps because it was similar to the gameplay offered in Tribes.  I also have a distaste for dedicated servers.  Tend to enjoy the prospect of matchmaking much, much more.

auto match making works for games like Left4Dead or just to quickly an already in progress match.

I like how Epic did Unreal Tournament 3's server setup where they have a matchmaker ie quick match which will find a server quick for your specific gametype but you also have the server browser where you can manually look for servers that interest you the most.

That is not really what I am talking about.  They do not join you in matches based on skill level.  And they also do not close the match teams down after game starting.  That is basically just an auto game finder.  There is a difference.

Actually, that is one of the problems I had with Left4Dead.  One being the lack of a party system(which I also loved dearly in Halo 3), and the second being that people constantly quit and join up on the other team, but I guess since they do not really track wins and losses in that game, it doesn't really matter.  The other being the crouch in corner and melee technique.

It's not about killing lots of people really fast (I've gotten multiple H O L Y S H I T ! ! !). It's about HOW I did it.
