He's mad because the Wii is not a monopoly like the Ps2 was, but isn't tat a good thing? there is more competition now and more choices.

I own a third place console and frankly i barely envy the the top two in terms of games. I get to play games I love and i am not forced to buy the wii like most people were to to buy a ps2.

Yep.  I love my PS3 (obviously, lol), and it does have strong third and first party support, so there is no clear loser of the console race.  Normally the 3rd place console got the scraps, but this third-place console has one of the best games of this generation on it.  Happiness +1

And I have a 60gig Ps3 TOO,  PS2 LIBRARY for cheap.

Well since you're obviously a person of no bias on the matter what-so-ever, we can take what you say to be the 100% truth. ;)

I couldn't agree more with you Onimusha

Gaming is..not what it used to be...

I'm getting bored with every ps3 game once i finished it.. i couldn't care less for silly and generic multiplayer. The SNES/N64 really was the golden age of gaming.

Obviously in the minority.

Multi-player is what keeps games on the charts (barring Wii and DS games, due to poor online implementation).

That's another sore spot of contention though, the reliance of developers on online/multiplayer to supplement otherwise lacking games. But if that is the way gaming is going there is no room for lapsed gamers like myself to complain I suppose. That being the case I wonder if genres that lack easy implementation of online/multiplayer will be doomed to obscurity then? It certainly seems to be the case this generation at least, FPS seems to shine the brightest while everyone else struggles to hand on. I hope we will all enjoy playing only the genres that have easily implemented online functionality because everything else seems in trouble.

I also wouldn't call Neos the minority, at least not from the standpoint of PS3 software sales. Both the PS3 and Wii seem to be suffering similar issues with limited appeal among core gamers and the overall staying power of their games. In a sense the Wii is the console people want to like and the PS3 has the games people want to like but neither really deliver. The 360 on the otherhand seems to be the golden child of software this generation, though we must ask ourselves if this is due to the sheer number of titles available or the quality of them. Either answer is subjective so I'll refrain from answering but it certainly is an interesting dillemma.

Lots of games that don't have online are doing very well this generation though.  BioShock didn't have online and sold 2 million+ copies, DS online games are few and far between and sell tons, and even my baby Uncharted sold 2 million un-bundled units not having an online component.  The game has to be really good though, obviously.

I think you are depressed because the Wii is not fun, try something else now... Little big planet, Braid, Bioshock, Burnout, Fallout, Halo Wars, etc.
I think the problem is that you have the Wii and that happened to me 2, at first its fun and after a while its not fun anymore, moving your hands around grow old pretty fast.
I didn't mention FPS because I can tell you don't like them.
If I were you I would try new things and stop being so loyal to Nintendo, I did and I'm having tons of fun.

But we have a 360 in the house now and so do all of my friends (as well as a few who have the big bucks to buy a PS3). I don't find those games anymore fun honestly. I was never naive enough to think motion controls would make gaming great I just went with what was at the time the most sensible console. If games on the 360/PS3 were actually more fun then I wouldn't have made a thread like this, but its the fact that they bore me tears all the same is why I personally have such reservations about this generation.

This thread is actually in response ot my increased exposure to other consoles and platforms.

It's not a matter of loyalty to Nintendo, its a matter of gaming this generation as a whole. If Nintendo was the problem, I'd drop them just like I did last gen, however its the lack of what I percieve to be a viable alternative that bothers me.

Maybe Nintendo systems are boring to you? hint: there are other options (and there's always PC and games from past generations).

Well if you're not aiming to tell the truth then how do you expect to show how bitter I am? Lies and bias seem like a poor means of making a point.

If you'd read the OP you'd see I wasn't praising Nintendo in the least bit, rather questioning the industry as a whole. Speaking of bitterness I must comment though on the levity of someone with a name like PSrock with a blatantly pro-Sony signiture trying to turn a thread about opinions on the gaming industry into a "It's okay to own a PS3" support group session, lol.

If you're happy with the industry that's fine but please don't resort to such bitterness.

Dude they're games, of course they're fun. Why else would we play them?

Owner of 360

Future owner of a PS3 (when it drops to $300)

Thanks to the Wii which you own, the industry is triving. The wii has changed the way we think about gaming and has open gaming to a whole new audience. People who normally wouldnt play games are and enjoying doing so.

MS has made the  Multiplayer experience something only the PC could before. There is a unique social experience to play with your friends, it's really quite fun.

I wont even mention the PS3.

You may miss the old generations ( which are mostly available to the new ones) but you can't ignore the fact that in no other time as gaming been so important. Even apple wants a piece of it.

You are not happy because that's just you, don't blame the consoles or the new games.
