Forums - Nintendo - Wii SD storage gives weird new opportunities

Perhaps it is just my imagination working overtime, but now the Wii has two forms of loadable media, what if they could both be used in the same game?

For example - if the game engine and protagonists come on disk but the game world comes on SD, so you could mix'n'match them.

Imagine playing as Link in the Deadly Creatures setting, beating up giant spiders.

Imagine taking the Gabbiano out for some diving in the sea off Termina. Or Mario in the DeathWatch.

Wow.

Now, it surely won't be as easy as all that, but the possibilities for some fairly radical breakthroughs in game design are there. Wonder how long it will be before someone takes advantage of them?

Around the Network

I'm not sure it will ever happen or even possible but I'll post just so more people see it to give opinions.

I don't think you'll see anything crazy like releasing elements of a game on disc and SD card, but I do think that this might open up options for more downloadable content with Wii games. The next question is whether or not Nintendo will allow publishers to use the SD slot for such a purpose, though Guitar Hero and Rock Band seem to suggest that won't be much of a problem.

Nice thoughts. It could be possible if it were the same company. Sorry, but you are not going to be able to play SMG as Sub-Zero. However, Nintendo could adapt this idea into future games so you could play a new Mario game with Link. Having the characters on an SD card and the game on a disc would allow you to mix and match. The only problem is that when they change an engine the game is run on, it will probably no longer recognize the old engine's characters. I would almost agree this will not happen, but one thing I've learned about Nintendo lately is if they think it will make them more money, they will do it no matter how weird it seems.

I have moved and do not have the internet at home, yet.
