By the way, in case you can find a game which sold well according to my requirements above (I think Fatal Frame IV may do it since it outsold all the PS2 Fatal Frame games), add the condition that the game has to sell a great amount right from the first week.

Look at the Star Wars example you made. Its shows that 81% of its sales were during the Holiday period. Thats a poor example. Madwolrd won't see any boost for some time. Look at NMH, then Madworld. I assure you, it will track exactly the same, give or take a couple thousand.

We are getting 2nd week sales for Madworld, which I've shown already. 40k to 17k is far form being impressive. I guess we will have to wait until weeks 4 and 5 until we can say if the legs will exist.

We can see that even the equivalent games sell better on PS3 (ranging from slightly to strongly), even though the install base is 44% of that of the Wii, and even though there are many violent games on the PS3 to satisfy.

So yes, MadWorld would have sold better on the other consoles.

House of the Dead sold nicely indeed, almost a million. I guess there's a certain public of light gun games on the Wii, but that still comes into shooter territory (oh, and week 7+ were holidays period, see how it tapers in japan but grows in NA and EU)

And Star Wars duels? One of the biggest brands, plus the idea of dueling with lightsabres using wiimote motions.

Nice sales in both cases, but I still think they don't tell us squat about the sales of Madworld.
Somewhat more comparable games: No More Heroes, Okami, Godfather (?), Tenchu (?)
I can't find many examples, sadly, but I don't see any evidence of "legs"

Please note that I'm not dissing the game... its PAL gimping angers me, but I'll probably pick it up later when it's cheaper. And its sales aren't great, but even great games like Okami did worse.
It's just that I think this "Wii legs" thing is a myth if taken at face value in general.

There is no equivalent to Madworld on the other consoles. There was on the PS2, though.

@WereKitten: How is Okami comparable? If we want to say only very similar games can be compared, then I guess No More Heroes is indeed the only valid comparison. That's very convenient but ultimately meaningless since it's only one game.

I'm not saying Madworld will necessarily have legs, I'm just saying it's too early to tell. "Wii legs" is certainly not a myth, plenty of Wii games have legs (copied from the post I linked above):

PS: Like you I'm also angered by the PAL conversion, I'll probably import a NTSC version and play it with Homebrew at some point.

So the main version of COD sold better than a spinoff?  And after that what?  Smackdown sold better on Wii and the Godfather sold better on PS3, but neither one by much. 

The rest of your lists (which I deleted) were small niche games (wii) vs. huge budget large franchise sequals (ps3). No good comparison can be made between those.

Well, base off of the VGCharts sales, which are for Japan only, we can't say much since Madworld is has no japan numbers yet. But I doubt the newfound female gamerbase will help it sell installbase adjusted equivalent numbers.
