Look at the game. Seriously, look at it.
It's a black and white game about a guy with a chainsaw on his arm that's basically about causing as much carnage as you possibly can, creating a massive bloody mess over the entire city. Oh, and it's made by Platinum Games. You know, those guys that have never made a commercially successful gaming, perhaps barring Viewtiful Joe.
In all honesty, how can anyone who dislikes the Wii see this as a victory? "HEY LOOK MADWORLD ISN'T SELLING MILLIONS THIS PROVES THE WII SUCKS LOL".
Well, okay, if you wanna go with that argument, fine. But then you also have to think that the PS2 sucks, because Okami sure didn't do very well there, and it had the exact same things working against it. Platinum Games, or Clover Studios as they used to be called, are artsy. That is their biggest asset and also their biggest fault. It's one of the things that make their games so special, but it also contributes to them not selling that much.
Do you think Sega went into this deal with them expecting MadWorld to sell millions? Not a chance. Anyone who expected MadWorld to be a massive seller was delusional, and anyone acting like they've "won" something because it isn't selling is being ridiculous.
This is a niche game on a mainstream console. It was never going to sell bucketloads. That said, sales seem healthy so far. It's not selling terribly. Just not particularly well either. And you know what? That's just fine.
