Forums - Gaming - Kojima's Astronomical Expectations.

Codecs are greatly missed :(

As far as the rest like i said it's all opinion. I personally loved how the game played out and running through the middle of huge battles in the first chapters was really fun. Assassins creed vibe of hide in pure sight. Personally i liked the autocamo cause like in MGS3 it was pretty much the same thing but you had to go to menu's to use it. Now that i think about it though they could have had Data Packs or something lying around where you downloaded octo-camo patterns and your octocamo would automatically change to the best setting you're pressed against. Just an idea. I can see your complaint about it.

I was expecting MGS4 to play exactly like it did, and i knew it would be cutscene heavy because it was suppose to tie a lot of loose ends. Thought it fit perfectly with the other games. I don't see how it was ripped cause to me it felt much like the MGS2 and 3 just with a much needed reworked camera option and the ability to move while aiming.
Like i said though, love it or hate it. I loved it, you disliked it to the others.

you can watch his entire gdc keynote over at gametrailers. his presentation is really funny and informative.

I don't really think he would be better off in television or cinema at all - he needs to learn to work on a much smaller and more truncated scale if he wants to get into that sort of thing.

But man, that game owuld have been great if you had been playing more of it. The people I was playing through with actually made fun of the final battle because I wasn't actually controlling the majority of it (or what felt like the majority of it).

Well any game can be improved.

1. It would be nice for the lighting to have more of an effect on gameplay, similiar to Splinter Cell, just more advanced.

2. The enemy AI in MGS is still kinda pitiful. Guards still walk in patterns you can illustrate on paper. They cluster the same way when they find you. It doesn't feel natural. Overall there hasn't been a large AI improvement since the first game.

3. Enemies disappear after a while as you shoot more and more in an area. More hardware power could have meant the bodies stacking up and not vanishing.

These are just ideas I've conjured up in mere minutes, so I can only imagine the lofty things Kojima has thought up over the 20 plus years he's been making these games. He was probably promised the moon by Sony and felt like the hardware did not deliver like they said it would. Remember being told the PS2 would be able to produce Toy Story-like graphics? I'm still waiting for the PS3 to do it.

It was microsoft who claimed that the xbox would be able to do that.

"One of the basic premises of the Xbox is to put the power in the hands of the artist," Blackley said, which is why Xbox developers "are achieving a level of visual detail you really get in 'Toy Story.'"

It seems like it was both.

"The new microprocessor will allow users to handle nearly 50 times more 3-D image data compared with Sega Enterprises Ltd.'s (7964) Dreamcast game console. It will also let users produce game characters comparable in image quality to Walt Disney's Toy Story.

I didn't know Microsoft said it also. Nice to know they were just as diluted.

@soul-Yeah I'm not trying to convert anyone, just venting a bit on my feelings regarding the game. I still hope for an MGS that puts the focus back in stealth, but I'm sure I'll be somewhat relieved when the new Splinter Cell comes out with it's nifty new innovations, whatever they may be.

I actually did not mind the final battle at all. It's one of my favorite parts of the game and I personally cannot think of a way to top it. In fact, if more of the cutscenes were at least partially playable the way that final battle was, I would be complaining about one less thing right now.

I'm talking about the several minute fistfight that preceded the battle itself. The part where you played it was absolutely fine.

that would have been so epic if you had to move around in the first chapter when the beauties started reeking havoc. Playing that would have been one of the most rememorable gaming moments.

You played the entire fistfight, it just progressed into more assisted playing to give it a more epic feel. It's basically the same thing as Prince of Persia, halfway in between fully playable and a QTE.

Ahhh...somewhere in between the other 8 hours and 55 minutes of cutscenes I had forgotten about that part. I agree. Most of that could have very well have been playable. My biggest greivance though is why instead of a 10 minute cutscene involving Raiden fighting Geckos and Vamp down in South America couldn't we play that shit ourselves as Raiden or at least a portion of it?
