Forums - Gaming - Maybe Harmonix shouldn't have pissed off non-360 (&EU) owners... (esp. Wii)

          GH:WT                   RB2
    360    1,827,014       1,537,627
    Wii      2,738,671         502,033
    PS3    1,102,674          556,194
    PS2    1,072,436          192,376

Overall:  6,740,795     2,788,230

So. um. Im not sure where to start. but Im going to try anyway.

look at the wii sales. Sure you can argue that time made a slight difference, but not over a quadrouple difference! the wii owners are obviously pissed about RB1 being released so late and being totally gimped. and then, RB2 came out on 360 first and it still was sold out by about 300,000 units. The only reason that I can come up with for the reason is the Jacked-up price in Europe and the non-release of ANY Rock Band games in Australia. On PS3, GHWT outsold RB2 by about Double (reasons could be pretty easy to guess: wireless dongles, '09 release, price, ect). The PS2 sales are just scary though. I mean, look at them. (Presumed Reasons: Gimped RB1, '09 release, no aussie release, dongled controllers, the motherload.)

My point: Harmonix needs to step up their game on the Wii, PS3 and PS2 versions of Rock Band games, and European releases... Not only did they lose an advantage of not having it out in time for the Christmas/Hanukauh/Kwanzaa/Eede(SP?) season, but they also left bad feelings with the gimped WiiS2 versions of RB2, and didn't stress the robustness of the game, or actually even advertise nearly as much as GHWT.)

Before anyone flames me, I have both RB2 and GHWT and love them both.

I'd account the PS2 difference more to the fact that GH came out first, and so all the PS2 owners wanted to use their controller with the sequels. Yeah they might be B/C or whatever but I doubt the mass market are too sure about it.

But yeah, Harmonix are really losing sales - albeit I can only think they're making plenty of that money back from Microsoft, otherwise they'd be doing simultaneous releases.

In other news, Harmonix reported today that Rock Band made $1 billion in revenue in 15 months... lolz.

Keeping in mind that guitar hero still has much larger name recognition than rock band, this is pretty much right.

Little to no advertising, gimped and staggered releases on the other platforms hurt rock band.

A warrior keeps death on the mind from the moment of their first breath to the moment of their last.

Wow, I didn't realise how badly GH:WT dominated Rock Band in sales. And as a Wii owner, I can honestly say its deserved.

Guitar Hero World Tour stepped up where RB didn't and delivered DLC, drop-in/out play, robust and reliable instruments and compatibility with GH3. Rock Band was uber-gimped and Rock Band 2 was (is) late.

I might get RB2 Wii since Its compatible (and for Maximo Park/Avenged Sevenfold DLC) but I will definitely get GH: Metallica, and if I had to pick only one, GH wins.

actually, it probably has something to do with moronic parents buying RB1 instead of 2, which is beyond me, but then again, non-gaming parents are pretty common, even bigger than the blue ocean market.

^^^ Yeah, but at that rate, wouldn't parents buy GH:III Legends of Rock instead of GH:WT?

GH is a more established franchaise, and you know how advertising and marketing works in NA probably, parents are brain damaged and dead by TV that they don't realise RB2 on Wii is a better product than GH.

It's sad, since RB is much better than GH. Better load times, better interface, and, the most important thing, better songs

Well, If you want to get down to it, I personally liked GH:WT better than RB2. As I said, I like them both, but GH:WT seems more fun to me. I like the slider-bar/tap-strumming (sitar-like) abilities, open strumming on the bass, star power on drums, the character creator, graphics, Guest appearances, exclusive DLC's like metallica & Jimi, and song creator. Oh, and better compatibility is nice.

But its all up to the consumer. Opinions vary from person to person. You can't go and say "Oh RB2 on Wii is a better product than GH."

the only reason thtat the xbox version was released first is they finished it then they released it. they wanted to go with guitar hero, and there other versions were not done yet.i believe
