Forums - Microsoft - Netflix still a 360 exclusive.

The fact that you can stream it only on Internet Explorer and no other browser should be a hint that the service stays with MSFT.

Actually, that is more likely to be an anti-trust lawsuit waiting to happen -- depending upon how it is implemented.

But it isn't a fact. Netflix streaming works fine with Firefox.

Stop making things up, I just tried using Firefox and look what happened:

Watching instantly on your computer

Your current Internet browser is not compatible with watching instantly on your PC. Please use Internet Explorer, version 6 or later, whenever you wish to watch instantly on your computer screen. Note that your current Internet browser is fully compatible with adding titles to the Instant Queue for later watching on compatible devices.

I'm not making things up, I have never used IE to watch things online with netflix.

Also, quoted right off their site

What are the system requirements to watch movies instantly on my PC or Mac?

You must have a computer running Windows XP or Mac OS X and an active broadband connection to the Internet.
  • Windows XP requirements: Service Pack 2 or higher or Windows Vista; Internet Explorer version 6 or higher; Firefox 2 or higher; 1.2 GHz processor; 512 MB RAM.
  • Mac OS X requirements: an Intel-based Mac with OS 10.4.8 or later; Safari 3 or higher; Firefox 2 or higher; 1 GB RAM.

So everyone knows, and this is ironic, you can use Instant Watch on your Mac or PC using Firefox and IE.

Netflix now uses Silverlight as their media player. And that is cross platform. So it's a Microsoft product being used to allow for play on other browsers for IE.

If you are having trouble getting it to play in Firefox, make sure you have Silverlight installed for Firefox and you should be good to go.

I sure any percieved bias towards MS consoles/browsers by Netflix is purely coincidental.

Well, it never worked with Firefox for me, so

After reading several news sources recently about a Netflix survey showing up on the Wii, and seeing it for our own eyes. There has been a lot if speculation that Netflix was eyeing the Wii as another source of revenue, so we put a call into Netflix headquarters and waited for an answer.

Steve Swasey, Vice President of Corporate Communications for Netflix called me this morning. "There is nothing to the speculation of Netflix coming to the Nintendo Wii or any other console. We have a great deal with Microsoft on the Xbox 360. We have had over a million members use the service on the 360 and over a billion and a half minutes of movies watched" He continued by mentioning  that the survey, was just that, a survey. "We survey our ten million members all the time, whether it be price points, content, delivery or platform. There should not be anything read into the survey on the Wii."

When asked whether Netflix was looking to move to other consoles in the future, he replied "In the future Netflix desires to be on whatever screen you watch movies on.  For now, the game console is Xbox360."

This almost sounds like a standard non-comittal non-denial denial to me. I wonder if it is a timed exclusive for the Xbox 360. That means that an announcement could come at E3. Or if another vendor was selected to bring streaming video to the Wii. Or it could mean nothing at all. (But the headline was rather misleading as the person never actually said that.)

If I recall correctly, a service similar to this is already being set up in Japan.  So something like this is more likely than not to happen.

QFT. It's really blatant it's a non comital answer.

Also why are we still hearing this nonsense about the Wii not able to stream media. Of course these people don't have a Wii like to be believe it has does Blast Processing with an 8bit cpu.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Rather just watch Bluray movies anyways. I doubt I'd use that anyways.
