Forums - Sony - GDC 09: God of War will not be locked at 60 FPS

I saw the video, and the drops were very noticeable.

I've never noticed frame rate issues unless they drop below 25 or so.

Hmmm, this still bugs me: how can some of you guys not notice a drop in framerate? I understand you can't see a thing from 60 to 58 or something like that, but below 50... It's practically impossible to not notice it.

You have better eyes than me sir.

Sometimes I wonder if some people need glasses. Who's realling "lolling" at the moment?

I like the God of War series, but this is the HD generation with powerful consoles. These kind of things shouldn't happen anymore. I'm not just talking about God of War III, I've noticed games like Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Fable II, Resistance 2 and a bunch of other games recently seem to be trying "too much", if you know what I mean?

Why I can play my Wii games with no framedrop and constant 60 fps is a mystery in my mind. The inferior console can process games like Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Pretty impressive if you ask me. o_O

And yes, I will enjoy the games even if there are framedrops. I'm just stating things I'm seeing that's happening in the world of gaming right now. It just doesn't make sense to me, in 2009.

@ kabhold: I don't know. Maybe because I'm more used to seeing framedrops since my laptop sucks too much at running intensive games like Crysis and stuff? @_@

Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Maybe we can start to be concerned about the framerate when they get to pre-alpha, or beta, etc. I don't think any of the GoWs locked their framerate, and it wasnt' a big deal then either.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

@SHMUPGurus

yeah same here

easy way to notice go play COD 4/WAW for an hour or so then after that pop up BF:BC or R2 or any shooter with 30FPS you will see the difference immediately

but what I was saying that GOW I&II ran on 60FPS almost all the time while there was not much enemies or bosses around, but when there are the framerate supposedly dips. how much I don't know and I'm really honest when I say I didn't notice. I only got the programmer word for it like I said.

so if GOW III "dips" are much like that then I wouldn't care because I wouldn't notice tbh

For sure. Dips are nothing.

It happened too on Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, so my examples aren't that perfectly good...! @_@

It bothered me in the new Lord of the Rings conquest game. Made the Multi-player unplayable IMHO!

It does look great, but I find frame-rate fluctuation annoying. I would rather have a constant 30fps than be teased with 60fps nirvana.
