Forums - General - Want to Live Longer? Cut Back on Red Meat.

hmmmm. Its amazing how resistant people can be to even the notion of cutting back on red meat.

Is it really that good? Do you really care *that* much that you honestly can't just watch your diet?

NEVER.

i'm telling you; cow farts to power our cars, houses, and etc. is the way of the future

I hate to break it to you all, but most of you will be clinging to your last years of life once you get there. Its really easy to say that you won't care when you will die until you are on the verge of death.

Its kind of like when someone rolls up to kill you. Probably less than 1% of people just don't resist. Its just not in our nature. Our survival instinct is too strong. When you are confronted with death, most people cherish every minute of life they have.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Yes and no ... The question for most people is Length of life vs Quality of Life, and I think few people would sacrifice something that greatly improves the quality of your life (romantic relationships) in exchange for a longer life when they're perfectly happy with the length of life they will receive anyways. With a smaller sacrifice (like Red Meat) some people will be willing to make that sacrifice while others won't be, especially when the increase in life is not a sure thing and there are countless other factors at play.

well the sacrifice being requested here is not giving up red meat. Its not pigging out on red meat. Jesus its the internet I would think you guys would at least *pretend* to not be gluttonous slobs.

The image of a person chowing on an over sized steak or 3 big macs is worse than the image of a morbidly obese person nibbling some broccoli - at least they are trying. And everyone has been pretty harsh about fat people in the other threads here. So perhaps we should instead be harsh about the diets that get people there?

Worst case scenario, most of the US population dies out due to Mad Cow and the vegetarians and the few who didn't eat much beef get to point and say "I told you so." Best case scenario, nothing happens. I just don't want to graduate to hear that I'm gonna die anyhow because of eating some cow 10 years ago.

It depends on the type of beef you consume. My family purchases its beef from a local farm that slaughters pasture-raised cows. Consuming beef from pasture-raised cows virtually eliminates the risk of consuming tainted meat. It is still possible, but it is highly unlikely If you purchase beef that has been fed MBM or has been raised in an area that has been fed MBM, then you are at risk.

Well I agree, if I know where the cow came from and what it was fed I don't mind eating beef at all. Problem is, that meat is hard to come by.

I agree about harshing about the diets more than the fatness itself, but... I still think fat people deserve to be harshed on about their physical appearence, else what reason do they have to get to a normal healthy weight?

Fat people are disgraces to the beauty of the natural human form.
Fat people who don't have a disorder causing it are lazy or crazy, thus deserve harsh words, unless they're atheletes like sumo wrestlers. Then it's cool to be fat to knock the other son of a bitch out of the ring.

A fat person can live a healthier lifestyle than the average person but will still get the harsh words.

Thus it would be much more fair to attack the diet and lifestyle behind it rather than the people. Just because you are 19 and are not fat and suffering from high blood pressure yet doesn't mean you wont. We should get people to figure this shit out before they learn the hard way.
