Forums - Gaming - PS3/360 's owners: do you want a Xmote or PSmote?

The PS3 sixaxis allready has a motion based pointing capability.
But it has never been used or developed for any game though as sony and other developers seem incapable of comprehending how to use the gyro.

Several hackers have worked it out though and use it for providing a mouse like horizontal pointing function for the sixaxis on the PC using glovepie drivers and use the forward - backward tilt for vertical axis pointing.

I wont buy any PS3 games because SONY and developes are holding back the good stuff to are to stupid to figure out how to use it.

the mote is the best controller for anything that needs a gun (well short of a mouse)

i mean why settle for sirloin when you can have a strip steak

Because for over two years they have been convincing themselves about how crap the Wii controller is.  Last thing they want is for something similar to appear on their beloved console and leave them no choice but to finally accept that they have been lying to themselves for a couple of years.

@mesoteto, i don't think it will be very accurate in terms of shooting, its designed to measure movement sure but its not designed to track where you point it on screen.

If you want a wiimote that has pointer control and physical movement tracking capability there is only one and because Nintendo copyrited and licensed this specific multiple function design you have no choice.

well if its just motions...then ehh it is a niches thing but if you can get teh whole package then blam

A copy of a concept I have already rejected? Nope.

Maybe if it comes packaged with a good game that shows off it's capabilities. I would consider it.

It doesn't have pointer control though d21lewis, what would be the point

It uses 2 sensor bars emmiting 3D pusles very rapidly.  This is much more precise than a simple infrared pointer.  It can track any movement to very precise measurements.  This means if you have the controller in your hand, it doesn't HAVE to be pointed at the screen because any way you turn/twist/move the controller, the action would be reflected on screen.  If you twist the controller left, the cursor on screen moves left to the exact definition of the precise movement thanks to this much more advanced tracking technology.  Same if you point up/down, diagonal, twist it vertically as in turning your hand on a nob, all the actions are doable and much more accurate. This would rule so long as they get games that support it!

^ crap, there is NO WAY that will be as accurate when pointing at the screen.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Definitely not, it would be a blatant ripoff and I like the traditional controller better.

Actually, there is EVERY way it will be MORE accurate.  The IR pointer is an old and slow technology.  Why else is it that the pointer on the screen does not move in 1:1 perfect unison with the remote?  This new device is much more accurate.  I'm sorry to burst your bubble though.
