Forums - Gaming - Patcher: "This is the Last Console Generation"

*face palm*

how do these guys get and keep a job?

nintendo has always made a profit, in fact this time around every machine they sell gets them money as well as game money

to say that they will just stop after one more round is just stupid....

the same goes for Sony and Microsoft, they have learned their lessons from nintendo

as long as you can deliver fun you don't have to take huge leap just bigger steps in hardware

and i am sure many devs have learned a lesson

you dont have to try and tap every bit of potential a machine has right from teh start---build upon previous games

start by making a above average game---you will sell pretty well and get a return on your investment

now take the tools you have and fine tune them and release another game, this time its a rally good game

built upon last game you wont have to lose much in dev cost and you will increase your following now build a third game that uses all past experience and tools only now fine tuned to perfection---release a near perfect game

small steps building up to greatness

instead of this business model we got devs going for broke on one game and most of the time falling flat b/c they are trying to put all their eggs in one basket when they are not even sure if its a basket

Pachter seems a lot more sane when he's on the Bonus round at Gametrailers, but elsewhere it's like his got a screw loose.

I would accept it (and he probably meant it this way), that we won't see another generation FOR A LONG TIME, because in that case I agree with him (I believe this will be the longest gen ever, or in recent memory).

If we're talking about purely from a hardware standpoint (like HD etc), I still disagree, already the current standard of HD which is "common" (1080p) is becoming defunct, and eventually consoles will have to be released to keep up with that (unless we want a GBA sized screen stretched out, exaggerating of course). So aside from new CPU's and GPU's, that alone tells us this won't be the last generation (hardware wise).

Did any of those clowns... euh analysts predicted anything true for the last three years ??

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

I am sure Pratcher gets all his ideas from reading these forums.

I think he has a point. I certainly think this generation has some way to go and I also believe that this generation will be "tinkered" with to the point that it will stretch the console more in line with a PC. This could be argued to be the end when the console manufacturers effectively change the goal posts on the spec.

I equally think this is also unlikely and new generations will emerge 2012 seems a good date especially the Wii.

I never have to buy a console again!!

Ofcourse their will be a new generation of consoles.

Eventually it will be cheaper to make a new slightly more powerful console than continue making PS3's / 360's.

Yeah. They predicted that the Wii would be in last place this generation.

Wait a minute...

@CAL4M1TY

Can't the human eye only detect a certain resolution at a particular screen size? Unless we start playing games on monstrous screens, I don't think there's much need for increased resolution.

Who cares, I'm not planning to buy a PS4 anyway, PS3 is my last Sony console, and especially no Xbox whatever. I'll most definitely buy a next Nintendo console, if the same controls will be available as on the Wii right now. Or else its handheld for the world.

Yeah, that's one good thing to be relieved about. Handhelds can't really be threatened.
