Forums - Gaming - GameRankings - Metroid up, Bioshock down...

I haven't played Bioshock yet (after I finish MP3 I'm buying it) but the one thing I can say which Metroid Prime both benefits from and is hurt by is the Zelda dungeon adventure elements of the game ... The formula is so well executed that I bet most of the reviewers finish the game and think that it is excellent yet feel like they have played similar games many times before hand

I have to agree, ive played a few zelda games, and i tried one of the first metroids, and i got the feeling that they were kinda the same type of game with adventure element, just different char, setting, and story. But they are still fantastic games, but if you are not a fain of this genre you most likely not enjoy a good portion of Nintendos best franchises

But i have not played the newest ones, so no one take me to serious

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

Bioshock gets a better score strictly because it is a new game all together, take MP1 for example compared to Bioshock.

Very good point, and a good reason why Metroid#1 will be in the top 10 - but MP3 won't.

You sort of wonder how "fair" that is - a sequel could be a lot better (improvements), yet still be marked harsher.

Now if only MP1/MP2 got remade for the Wii...

I think it is completely fair to include it being a sequel in the equation. If the sequel brings nothing new to the table then it deserves to get dinged. Bioshock scored so well because it was great on so many levels -- graphics, art design, innovation, atmosphere, presentation, controls, etc. etc. etc. MP3 seems to be enough of a departure from MP1 and MP2 (at least from the little bit I've seen and played) that it stands on it's own two feet just fine.

Well, I agree Bioshock is a great game, but I take issue with it getting 10s. It's not perfect. There are certainly flaws. The glaring ones are: repetitive enemies, too easy, vita chambers, and a game breaking bug that can completely stop you from advancing. These might be relaitvely small complaints considering how amazing the rest of the game is, but they are complaints nonetheless. Unless you can find absolutely NOTHING to complain about, the game does not deserve a 10.

Im just curious you think metroid deserves a 10? What i mean by that is what major flaws do you see in it, i know bioshock had

Lack of enemies, sometimes the same types got a little old, still really fun but the more you played it slowly went a little down

To easy with Chambers

few other minor things

And i agree with you no game actually in history deserves a 10, but i agree with 10 scores because they give those scores in regognition of great games, they give it to games they want to stand out and people say "wow must be a great game" and thats why i sometimes agree with 10/10

No game is perfect, but if its on the lvl of bioshock, Z OoT, Sm64 etc, doesnt it deserve to be recognized?

No, of course I don't think it deserves a 10.  I would give MP3 a 9.5.  It has a few glaring issues of it's own: There is a completely pointless fetchquest near the end of the game.  I just got to this and I have to say it was really unnecessary.  The enemies become practically undefeatable without the use of Hyper Mode near the end of the game.  While I think that was a purposeful design decision, it frustrates me, as in generaly I think Hyper Mode is a bit too much of a crutch.

Those are my only issues so far.  I still have about 4 hours of gameplay left before I finish the game, but it doesn't deserve a 10, and neither does any game that you can find issues with.  Yes, it should be recognized, but anything over a 9 is enough to recognize the game as oustanding.  10s are thrown around like candy these days.  That frustrates me.

Again i agree, but alot of games get over a 9 nowadays, look at what gamespot gave that wario game a 9.1 or something.

9's are thrown around more then 10s are, and again i just believe in 10s if the game is just fantastic and deserves to be recognized

The only way they can fix this is just to be harsher on games, make it so games that are great, but nothing fantastic new, or blows you away, get a high 8 to 9, not a 9.7 etc. because they then the games that are better, have to obtain a 10 to be regonized

I find this a little funny considering HL2 came with a lot of stuff, including CS: Source. But hey, kudos to Bioshock for convincing me to upgrade my PC to play it.  Will be interesting to see if it maintains the lead over HL2, though.

After initial reports having Bioshock so high and MP3 so relatively low, I figured that over time they would equalize themselves somewhat with Bioshock maintaining a slight lead in overall rankings.

Not that it really matters, they're both great games.

 Agreed.

Both great games indeed.

Also i have to add on popular request that there is also this underestimated great game Lair. Following the genereal critisizm on vgchart's forum i can only say that the game looks great and if you look at a few instructional YouTube videos about how you have to use the controlls it seems to be an AAA title after all.
Oh it's 4 gigs per map, that really does make the game great. It's on a blue-ray disk, yet your dragon is brown. And the playstation universe whatever site gave it double the score of other well known sites. And no, as me they are unbiased.

Hmm on opinion it can be a AAA title, but in order for this to happen it has to at least get decent to great reviews, so far they have been incredibly low, from true unbiased sites.

Im guessing our joking most of this =P

its on a blue ray but its brown  rofl

i agree, and given bioshock's more recent reviews are closer to 90%, I'd say you are on the right track if you assume that it'll drop down HL2 before long

What a waste of a thread.

There's a simple reason behind it that I guess no one understands.

After the first 30 or 40 big reviews, average scores always go down. Zelda: TP was doing much higher than it did in the end. Once you get to a certain point, the reviews end up being alot worse, as they aren't the major magazines and are just throwing their 2 cents in, and are rarely major publications that have in-depth reviews, or are held to real high standards.

So is it any wonder that Bioshock has gone down a few tenths of a percentage points? MP3 isn't suprising that it's gone up, but to go up another 2% or more, will be very difficult, or impossible to do.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
