Forums - PC - MS trying harder with GFWL

These don't sound good to me.

* Anti-piracy Solution: Zero-day piracy protection and server-side authentication help prevent game piracy before street date, and protect publishers and consumers by requiring authentication for online play

server side authentication means you cannot play a game without connecting to the internet to register, I don't see why you are jumping for joy about this.

* In-game Marketplace: New Marketplace APIs let developers create unique in-game store fronts and experiences surrounding the sale of additional content, providing developers and publishers with new revenue streams, and consumers with a seamless gaming experience
That's pretty cool

* Roaming: PC gamers can now save their personal settings back to their Games for Windows Live account in the cloud, providing access to their settings on any compatible and connected PC
Settings are meant to personalise an experience for a particular PC. If your PC struggles to play the game, change all the settings to low. The only way this could help is if you own two identical computers. but if you do, wtf?

Around the Network

It is pretty obvious that PC gaming is an afterthought in Microsoft's game strategy. Everything is focused on the XBox. They even go so far as delaying or not porting games to the PC as to not hurt 360 sales. (Fable II, GTAIV DLC, Gears2, etc) They rarely mention PC gaming stats or sales, and are silent about PC gaming at E3.

They would much rather you buy a 360 to game on than a PC. They make a lot more money that way. It is pretty obvious to everyone. If they were serious about the PC, the GFW Live marketplace would rival the 360 marketplace.

Until they make PC gaming the same priority that 360 gaming is to them, GFW Live will continue to be a failure.
