30-50ms 'lag' is about good enough as it would net a fairly acceptable 20-35fps range. Its definately something which could be interesting in built up cities with good internet infrastructure and dense populations.

Would dense populations be a problem because of increased server load?

No, I think he means it's more viable in large urban centers because you can plop down a data center in the middle of town and serve a market of several million with low latency.

Farmer Brown with his satellite uplink can forget it.

Oh well yes I get bringing down the latency, sure.

It just seems like this would take a metric hell ton of computer hardware.

Actually it would be better as it would likely give economies of scale to a server node, rather than spreading them out over a greater number of locations. I.E its cheaper to have one server catering to 1000 users than 3 servers with 333 users each.

Tease.

Okay, that does make sense.

The computer hardware requirements aren't as big as you might assume. Not everyone uses the computer hardware at the same time, and not all games require as much performance. Its easier to upgrade the hardware locally as computer technology advances and theres no need to orphan large segments of your userbase to upgrade the technology. (Console generations)

I don't like this!

I like having physical copies of my games!

I like having the data flow throw my processor before being displayed on my screen!

I like having control over my own files and my own processes!

It's just weird.

One question is... what would this do to the mod community?

They will be the first against the wall.

I'm having a hard time believing it's viable for most action games...
Some games have button push that have to be done within a few frames to work and the delay between the video you see on your screen and the input you provide through your controller will at least be 100 ms, probably a lot more...
Now lets say you run at 60fps that's a frame every 16 ms.
That means a 6 frames delay at least between what you see on the screen and what input you provide ( if you have 100 ms delay only).

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

sounds cool... but i wonder when will they make the game easier...where in you dont need to use any controler but jz ur mind..where in u cn go where ever you want as quick as u wish...that will be great for killzone2
