There can still be multiple endings to Mass Effect 2 even if they only used one of the endings in the first game as canon.
I would rather see them stick with one of the first game's endings to keep playing through the second one consistent.

The game should go off your save data from the first game. So it will go along with whatever ending you got on your save file.

They've been pretty clear since the series was announced that each sequel would read the previous game's save file. They want it to be a continuous story. Wouldn't you find it a little jarring to find that all the time you spent in the first game making decisions was for naught, as they didn't matter and they weren't the 'correct' story path?
That said, it won't be the first sequel to read the first game's save file. The Suffering: Ties that Bind did that, and parts of the game were changed (including the beginning) depending on the ending you got in the first game. However, they still had a 'generic' opening (that didn't assume either extreme) that you could select if you wanted.
I wouldn't be surprised if this is not about the Reapers or the Geth.
Anyone who has read the books knows that there is an organisation beyond a certain Mass Relay. We don't know what their race is, only that they kidnap/kill anyone and everyone that goes through that Relay (at the very least, noone ever returns). There have been rumours of them supplying Galactic citizens with incredible technology in return for committing henous crimes against our Galaxy for their benefit such as kidnapping people from certain races (presumably for research).
Of course, this race COULD be the Reapers.

It seems extremely likely however that they would for the next game follow the plot of the first game, not the books. It would make it more natural for the most people as not many people will have read the books.

True. But the content that I bolded was not a focus of the books. It was merely an anomoly referenced by them for the use of their plotlines.
The plotlines I mentioned could easily be utilised by both the books and the games.

I kinda assumed that a leak would be concerning the main story line, which would probably be following that of the first game.
The behind enemy territory suggests the veil to me, though I could be wrong. Who thinks that the new race they introduced in an expansion will play a major part?

I cant make up my mind to be honest. I agree that the leak implies behind the veil. But in the books and the DLC the Batarians are huge. Especially in our corner of the Galaxy where we are competing with them to expand. Unless there are Batarians beyond the veil I dont quite know how it would work...

That's true, I was just looking at it from putting in the work to include characters that you wouldn't see the entire game until you replayed it with settings (or a save or something).
Even then, what about people new to the series? Will they have to answer some questions or something that selects which ending of the first game the player will be playing from?
Question 4: If the council were to be killed by a race of robot aliens, would you A) Make saving them your first priority even though you have the available firepower to repel the attack and save the whole universe from destruction? or B) Let them perish for the greater good of all the other races that live in the Galaxy that are about to be wiped out?
