Forums - Gaming - OT: Do you think Obama will agree with Jack Thompson? (Actual Thread)

Just read the article on how Jack Thompson sent Pres. Obama a letter to ban killer video games. Do you think Obama will go along with this? Aren't there more things to worry about than video games?

"We have more guns in this country than people" - Jack Thompson

Then why not ban guns?

Well they should ban guns... Unless you have a gun licence etc and are trained have your criminal history checked out..

In fact they should do a nation wide gun buy back, it'd rid america of guns and stimulate the economy at the same time!

Not a chance. The man's been disbarred, remember? His opinion holds no weight anymore. At least, it should never have amounted to peanuts for anybody with half a brain in the first place.

I think in terms of moral issues Obama's only conservative stance will be against gay marriage. Everything else is up for grabs, including censorship, in fact he has already publicly stated that consorship won't even happen in his own department, its relevant.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

no, Obama is from the streets.

No. To put all possible moral and ideological designs aside, it is not time to be pursuing any sort of prohibition-esque "Noble experiment," it would kill a few American-based game developers (like Epic) and cripple a lot of others, and hurt retail and sales-tax pools radically.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Not at all.

Jack Thompson is a thouroughly discredited tool... Nobody really takes him seriously except for Fox News who claim he is a "video game expert"

Obama has much better things to do than worry about people like Jack Thompson and their pet issues.

Sure. Obama's trying to manage two wars and a recession while reforming education and health care policy, ending the American torture regime, and restoring the United States authority as a leader in global affairs.

All of these priorities really should take a back seat to video game censorship. Let's focus on the important things here.

Thompson was a tool to begin with. At least now, even politicians should know this.

That letter will likely be screened and thrown in the trash or something.
