Forums - PC - Are you happy with your PC?

Not when it comes to gaming, my PC is a piece of crap when it comes to games. But other than that it does what I need it to.

"Now, a fun game should always be easy to understand - you should be able to take one look at it and know what you have to do straight away. It should be so well constructed that you can tell at a glance what your goal is and, even if you don’t succeed, you’ll blame yourself rather than the game. Moreover, the people standing around watching the game have also got to be able to enjoy it." - Shiggy

Yeah I'm extremely happy I've had it for 5 years now and it's still running great with only one crash. I also lost the side panel to it :(. I Updated the mouse, monitor, and speakers. I need to update the graphics card but it being a compaq I'll just end up buying a new computer when this one finally craps out.

Mostly, but Fallout 3's stability issues are getting on my nerves. Fortunately, everything else is smooth as silk.

yes. but It's starting to age. My 8800 GT is going from med-high graphics to med-low. (at 1080p)

No. My computer died a month ago (CPU or MB, not sure which) and I went to Microcenter to build a new computer. I went in planning on an X2 5050e with 2 gigs of RAM, came out with a Q9400 and 4 gigs of RAM. The surprise of seeing a Q9400 for $180 made me buy it on impulse. What a waste of $140+ (CPU, RAM, MB savings if I had gone the cheaper X2 route). Happy with the new case and PSU I got though, which made my computer both quieter and smaller.

if you mean in gaming then no , cause i dont use it to game its not upgraded and vista is a stigma to games

as for it being a PC then yes, can live without it.

well just to let you know, Windows 7 solves all Vista's issues. Even Vista SP2 RC doesnt come close to Windows 7.

Have you had a chance to try it out yourself?

On topic: I haven't really bought any new PC games recently besides Left 4 Dead...most of my time is spent in either Source engine games or Quake Wars, and my computer is just fine with those on max settings @ 1080p resolution...so, I'm satisfied with it.  It would be nice having a quad core to cut compile times in linux in half though, but my 5400BE works great for the price i paid for it.

No, but by the end of the year I'll have a PC that I'm extremely pleased with.

Satisfied with the near stock OEM HP Q6600 quad/9600GT running X86 Vista for video, web and gaming.

The E8400 dual clocked to 3.9Ghz/HD4870 running X64 Vista on the other hand, while delivering fast gaming performance, has far too many unresolved network issues due to Windows, making it unsuitable for anything but gaming.

When Windows 7 SP1/2 is released and Intel releases the "tock" Nehalem CPUs, I'll probably give it another shot in a year or so along with a current dual GPU VGA solution.
