How is what Sony is doing bad for us customers ?

And come on, all the cost the developers incur is 16 cents per Gig of DLC they release... As for free content, my understanding is that it will only be charged the first 60 day and then it will be free for publishers so they won't remove it...

Lets say the average DLC is 10$ and 500 MG, that's 8 cents extra cost for the publishers, a whole frigging 0.8% increase in cost.........................

It's bad for customers because you don't have a choice in the matter. It's up to the publisher to choose how to cope with the cost increase, and as I explained in the other thread, it is most likely going to be cutting development costs, or in the case of paid content, increasing the price.

Well network issues aside (I get no issues connection wise to PSN or XBL). The point is, while XBL still IMHO has some more 'polish' on it. The core of all that I could want is all there for PSN.

Sure, the XBL yearly fee is a plink in the bucket for most people on a week to week basis. When you add it up though, across a generation (Let's just use an arbitrary 6 years). You clearly can see how those yearly fees start to add up. The 600$ price tag for the PS3 doesn't even seem so astronomical when you put two and two together. Especially with the 360 lacking Blu-Ray and WiFi.

Some of the fee for Live is going to this I'm sure. Then again, Microsoft has restricted developers bandwidth in many cases and doesn't provide full game downloads. So they aren't exactly giving their developers the carte blanche to placing their content on XBL. (Which PSN pretty much does). It's two different approaches with two similar endpoints. I don't think it's going to effect much at all.

I don't think we can say the endpoints are really similar. In one case developers are simply restricted, in the other they probably restrict themselves and have to make an extra payment on top of that.

In all honesty none of this would be a big issue if publishers weren't already suffering from record expenses on HD development. In the end this is one more thing pushing publishers away from the PS360 and towards the Wii, so it's good news as far as I'm concerned.

Restricting your content can cripple your overall sales of a game.  Which bottom line, (Sales) is the source of revenue for developers.

I agree, While I certainly don't believe it is a 'positive' thing but it is hardly crippling either.  This has been going on since what?  October?  I honestly haven't noticed much lacking in terms of content personally and quite frankly I'm not upset either.  Demo's are essentially free advertising for these companies and under other circumstances they would have to pay for the advertising anyways.

I'm glad the fee hasn't been passed back to the consumers though.

The increase in cost is so small that the impact will be close to nill.

Publishers are just complaining because they would like to have everything for free....

Like I demonstrated if they decided to increase price the increase would be around 8 cents for a DLC, or they could just shut up and absorb the cost...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Actually the increases aren't as small as you think. With all the content that Bungie have put out for Halo 3 (just 1 game) The DLC would have cost them over $1 million. Yes that will change a companies perspective.

What I don't like about it is that it is counter-productive.

While PS3 is lagging behind on the market, publishers who already take the risk to invest on the plateform also have to cope with the fee of PSN.

Wtf ?

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

Why couldn't they have just used all the supposed money they make on Home to cover these costs? Instead of pushing it on to the game makers?

Didn't you hear? They are doomed.  They will be bankrupt within a month or two.  It's all over for them.  It's only a matter of time till they pull out of the console business in general.  Microsoft has clearly defeated them.  The PS3 is a complete and utter failure.  So they are just trying to make some profit off of that abortion of a system.

Think I covered everything?

1 million seem a lot except when you compare it to how much money Halo 3 made, and the  it's once again so small noone notices...

It's all relative....Increase Halo 3 cost by 1 million and will things change at Bungie ? Not at all, they won't even feel it...

The total cost becomes huge only if you have sold a huge number of DLC to start with...

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

A lot of the Halo3 content is free, I seriously doubt it would be free if it had costs associated.
