Forums - Nintendo - Capcom rep: "Okami on Wii did good", make up your mind

I think the lesson here is that when company reps speak, they have a message they're trying to get across. That message may or may not have a damn thing to do with the truth.

"The worst part about these reviews is they are [subjective]--and their scores often depend on how drunk you got the media at a Street Fighter event."  — Mona Hamilton, Capcom Senior VP of Marketing

The wonderful thing about ports of old games is that any loss in initial game development has already been written off.

Think of it this way:

- Okami sold terribly on the GC and lost us a couple million dollars.

- The port to Wii of Okami was very cheap to make and produced a profit far beyond the cost of porting it over.

The second quote, which I believe was from "Sven", has been questioned at least twice on this forum as being contradictory to both logic(Viewtiful Joe), and other Capcom statements(Okami, Z&W). It's nice to see a statement come out after that which helps debunk it.

This is what Colin Ferris, Capcom Product Manager, said in a podcast:

“As for the Clover IPs, we did just release Okami on the Wii. And it did have some very good success on the Wii. It definitely did well. So we were excited about that. As for revisiting some of them [Clover IPs], you know, I can’t rule anything out but we don’t have anything planned.”

From Nintendo Everything

Which doesn't match the comment made by him some time ago:

"The games business is filled with titles that people love that simply did not make money: Viewtiful Joe. Okami. Zack and Wiki."

From GameDaily

Maybe he meant the PS2 version didn't make money.

While the Wii port did.

I mean those games are listed in order of release that way.

Come on guys. Can't you see Capcom is giving what you guys wanted.
Both sides of the argument are correct.

They made it easy for us to cherry pick. What more can you ask for?

It did sell terrible on the GC.  It didn't sell a single copy...

Okami on PS2 probably lost money.

Okami on Wii probably more than covered the cost of porting it and was therefore a nice profit generator.

Therefore both statements are true.

Right on.

Sven doesn't like Wii, PSP, or DS. Just look at some of his comments at official Capcom forum.
