I can enjoy both.
Simple plots like in FF, complex like in the Xeno Series.
Heck I even liked DQVIII which has a story on the same complexity level as Mario platformers.

FF has simple stories?  News to me.  FF has been the top dog when it comes to shocking plot twists and revelations since God knows how long.

All I care about in a story is decent pacing, atleast average voice acting, tolerable(if not great) writing, memorable characters, etc.

At least relatively spoken. I.e. in comparison with Shin Megami Tensei or Xeno RPGs.

Tempus fugit Nintendo manet.

I mostly care about the presentation and voice acting. A videogame can have an absolutely non-sensical storyline worth a cheap movie of early 90s but presented and voiced well and this will be very enjoyable experience (like MGS4) Or you can have a "good" well written storyline filled with plot twists and cool ideas but poorly presented and voiced and such a story will just be boring and annoying to follow.

The plot better be complex. Complex plots for the intellectual minds.

To me the most important part in a jrpg storyline is to have great pacing that always has you tackling something new, Alot of plot twist that keeps you guessing, characters you can actually connect with, and alot of deep and emotional event in the storyline.

You are describing Persona 4. Have you played it?

I wish. I only played Persona 3 which was a great game but it had alot of down time in the storyline. And there were a few plot twist with some being very unexpected like when you find out that by killing all of those full moon monsters you unsealed Nyx and now we are all gonna die. Also when you find out that Nyx was sealed within the main character.

Well, P4 is similar, but the story is more complex and has more twists, I can understand the down time you speak of, since when you already cleared the levels in Tartarus (or the dungeon in P4) you're left with time where the story doesn't move forward. Anyway, if you liked P3, you really should play P4, it's all the great things P3 had but much better.

This is the reason why i enjoy storyline from jrpgs like Xenogears, Final Fantasy X, Tales of Vesperia and Tales of The Abyss. They all brought a crap load of plot twist with many i never saw coming and had a great cast of characters that you can really connect and relate too. Also they had alot of memorable events that you would never forget like Final Fantasy X's ending and Tales of The Abyss at the Tower of Rems and it's ending as well. Xenogears has so many memorable events i don't know were to start and Tales of Vesperia had quiet a few as well like at Mantaic and a certain event in Dhangrest.

I'll get my hand on it when i get the chance.

It depends. Too many bad plot twists could ruin a good story. I also like ones that actually make you think about whats going on as you uncover new things, as well as endings that have a great conclusion. Bad conclusions can ruin any story. Also, the characters have to be like-able with good developement.

I want more mature characters. I hate playing as children. I wanna play as men and women in their late 20s to early 50s. I'm also tired of cliched jrpg stories. No more saving the world either.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

Would early 20s work for you?  You will probably see more JRPGs with main characters in their early 20s as opposed to their mid to late teens.

@Rei

Could you please give me some examples of JRPG stories that are well written but are poorly represented?

P3 was great to me in that aspect. It always felt mature and you never got bored with what you did. It was up to you to determine your own pacing, in-between each main event you had new info coming up each week and non-main story via social links. The mystery unravels slowly which is great since most JRPGs throw you lots of new info at a single time which makes it hard to fully understand it. All other SMT games I´ve played were great in that department as well.
Tales have many plot twists but they are generally dumb and childish for my taste. SO does a good work though, even though its stories are so-so. LO was mature and had a great story, pacing was good. Sadly I still got bored because the 2nd part of the story blew it (and its very slow gameplay). If anything, FFX is perfect in the story/plot department. More JRPGs should be like that.
