Forums - Sony - HOME = Failure? (hmmm... maybe)

@ terislb )

You are correct, if you want to say that there is far too little acceptance for criticism in users here and I certainly don't want to exclude myself from that as I know, that I'm not the best in handling criticism things I do enjoy, but this isn't a one way street.
From my view much of the criticism that is voiced here and is "just" at it's core is worded and presented in an aggressive and forceful way (ah yea and the injust criticism ofcourse even more so, as it has to be very aggeressive to make any "point), that pretty much kills any possible room for discussion and hence makes it hard to reach an understanding/agreement on things. Another problem I see is the constant reuse of the same points of criticsm, as after some time you will have heard them all so often, that you just feel like they are part of some sort of mantra.

One way to handle that certainly is to ignore it as you seem to mean with your "we don't need to defend Sony" (not literally qouted) attitude and which is the approach I usually favor aswell, especially because I'm not perfectly confident in my english.
The more stupid threads and comments are the easier they are to ignore for me, but when threads try to seem objective, but are atbest half-way there with the other half being pure bias that is used as "facts" or "arguments" with conclusions that are formulated in an absolute way it gets hard to ignore to me and I sometimes can't help myself dropping some sarcastic line or atleast a "well, I do enjoy it" (which in the course of the thread is totally ignored), if it's a topic that is of interest to me.

Personally I admire people who are able to extract the just core criticism out of statements, are able to accept it honestly and to argue against the injust parts and aggressiveness in a polite way effectively bringing the whole matter to a level of discussion with their responses, because I find myself to be inapt to do so far too often.

Home is an service built on a idea/model that was new and interesting in 1997, and by 2002 most people realized that this wasn't the kind of service that people wanted ... The fact that Sony spent so much on Home when most people would be happier with a port of the google talk client connected to a game match-making service just demonstrates the kind of thinking that has pushed Sony's game service so far into the red.

*sigh* wrong comparison, home neither is a main service of the PS3, nor does it have any "it isn't working" issues (bar from the obligatory start problems it had), which are very different to a "this service is useless to me" issue

if I got a cellphone for free and realise "hey, I don't need this" I wouldn't complain, would you?

let me rephrase it. How about you use the free phone as a second phone or give it to your parents but the call quality is rather working (so it's working but not working well)? I would probably complain first to see if there is any improvement then drop it if nothing changes.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

I'm not a regular homer, but I do visit from time to time. People do play it and like it. Every time log into the EU or US Home servers it is packed.

  Unleash The Beast!

End of 2011 Sales: Wii = 90mil, 360 = 61mil, PS3= 60mil

Oh, hating on home is back in fashion? We seem to go in a cycle here,

Sony are gonna go bust
Cut X from the ps3 to make it cheaper
Sony failed by removing ps2BC
Home sucks

I look forward to the Sony are gonna go bust threads next week.

I think the Sony are gonna go bust threads will start next month after they report their dismal quarterly numbers.

Is Home final version released or is there still only the "demo version"?

4 million users in a few months? I'm very impressed

Second life - 15 million accounts in 5 ish years

Home - 4 million accounts in 4 months

"Jack Buser, director of PlayStation Home for SCEA, stated that Home will remain in beta "indefinitely." He also stated that, "We quite like the name 'open beta,' so you can expect us to stay in open beta for some time" http://dlb-network.com/2008/12/sonys-home-to-remain-in-beta-indefinitely/
