Forums - Gaming - Will I like Resident Evil 5 if I have no friends?

I don't really like to play my single player campaigns with a partner, whether it's AI or human.  I played Gears of War 2 by myself, but it was pretty clear that it was designed to be played in coop mode.  Don't get me wrong the AI controlled Dom was ok, but there were certain moments when I felt like I was helping him out instead of him helping me out.  During the moments of the game where you had to select a path, I always had to select the path that would cover Dom, because he wasn't very good at providing me cover.  Sometimes during some heavy fighting he would be standing next to an enemy and they would ignore each other, kind of like the uncomfortable feeling you get when you run into an ex-girlfriend at a party.

That brings me to Killzone 2 and the Rico/Garza situation.  I'll be honest, these are probably my 2 most hated video game characters on Earth.  The fact that I am stuck with one of them throughout the campaign is pretty annoying.  Aside from the abundance of expletives that they utter, they really add no value to me other than giving me someone to revive during a heavy firefight.  Oh and by the way, thanks Rico for walking in front of my missile launcher during the Radec level.   You single handedly preventend me from clearing the level with zero kills (On Easy).

So I am beginning to accept the fact that more and more single player campaigns are being designed more for coop rather than individual play.  These design choices effect everything from level layout, ai decisions, and scripted events.  The problem is when the single player campaign is noticeably better when it is played cooperatively than individually.  I am sure that many people enjoy coop, but it is likely that the vast majority of people will only play the campaign by themselves.  So if I am one of the many people that will not play Resident Evil 5 in coop mode, will I still enjoy the game?

Note: I know that you can't play Killzone 2 cooperatively, that's why I don't understand why Rico and Garza were in my hip pocket 95% of the time.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Why not rent it and find out?

@Wow - I don't have a rental account. The demo kind of grew on me, but there were times when Sheva got me killed by getting in my way. I guess I am curious if Resident Evil 5 is good with the AI Sheva.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Sheeva is alright. She just wastes ammo and health so you have to hoard most of it. She does help you out though.

I know what you mean about AI, I'm playing Lego Batman right now and like all the lego games it is clearly meant for 2 players. But you'll be trying to build up some crucial lego switch or something like that and the enemy runs up and kills you left and right. You partner?? Standing there just watching you die, not even attempting to help.

I never had much issue with Gears.

lol no more internet for you.

if u liked re4 u should like 5 just use sheva as a packing mule and only give her a gun so she won't waste ammo 4 the other better guns theres plenty of health around so don't worry but her wasting that

the game would of been better had it been just chris though

That's my problem with these games supporting coop with the campaign.  They tend to add an AI partner that lessens the experience.  It impacts the game play.  Playing through the Killzone 2 campaign, there were several areas where it made sense to fall back and trap the enemies in a choke point, but there is no way to plan strategy with an AI partner.

yeah i hate all this co-op and online gaming ruining games this gen i hope re6 wont have an ai partner uncharted2 looks to be just drake i never play online or co-op

they should only add the extra partner wen playing online or with a friend the single player should be designed for single player

if ur a re fan though u should check the game out its good partner or not

@BHR - I think that Uncharted will have coop. They announced that there is a new woman sidekick "that is Drake's equal". That sounds like a coop partner to me. The problem for games like Resident Evil 5, Uncharted, and Bioshock is it would be difficult for them to have true online versus modes because it doesn't fit the story. Unfortunately, the only online modes they can offer is coop.

@Phoenix - lol congrats on the friends.
