Forums - Sales - PS3 Passes GCN WW?

it will never reach PS2...only the wii could do that....at the mo...

the ps3 needs to hit the xbox total by the end of the year...it's going to be tight in the current climate.....

right now the cheaper xbox360 is just the better option for people who want to play hd games....

unless the ps3 and sony have some sort of long term strategy they better hurry up....

aslong as my ps3 still has good games for a few years i'm not that bothered.....it is a nice piece of kit and 21m sales is not that bad considering the price of it....

i bought a 60gb backward compatability.....blu ray/dvd/player,wireless,4usb etc version 2 game bundle a while back for £349 i think it was......

what do they cost now in the shops....plus what is the price of wii and 360 in the uk market now.....i could look it up but maybe you know anyway.....thanks

Ok yeah, it doesnt have much of a chance in beating the PS2, but beating PS1 maybe. I think they'll drag out this 10 year thing, they are talking about it a lot, I dont think Sony thought PS2 would last this long, but PS3 could last just as long because the technology it has is built to last. It is currently the most powerful console, however, next gen, it will likely be the least powerful, becoming the PS1/2 once again, and by that time, It will be $200 at most.

Just my speculation, but if Sony wants the PS3 to be a success, they should do the above, and this is why they dont need to drop the price immediately, maybe mid 2009, or $50 now and $50 towards the end of the year. They just need to start profitting first.

The bold is irrelevant.  Consoles last a long time based on certain principles.

Consumer interst.
Developer/publisher interest.
Retailer interst.

All 3 are inherently related.

The actual components in the console have very little to do with either.  Look at history for what I speak.   The "10 year plan" is marketing 101 and nothing more.   Sony, or any comapny, can not make their console last arbitrarily longer than the market accepts it.

I got my 60GB for £310 with Resistance 1 and Motorstorm 1 in late 2007, when Sony announced it was phasing out the 60GB, I had to get one ASAP lol

TBH, I havent looked at the price of a PS3 for a while, the cheapest I've seen is £259.99 on its own, or £279 - £289 with a Killzone 2 or some other bundles.

360 is £130 for arcade and pro I think it £170 - £180 and the Wii is £180 but is about to go up to £200 in the UK.

360 Premium a while back used to be £280 so PS3 isnt at such a bad price atm IMO, its just the CC stopping people buying the more expensive consoles / versions of consoles

The playstation 3 will easily sell 50-60 million by about 2011 , the xbox 360 is running out of steam, they've already maxed out its graphics power limited to its hardware and dvd format and they cant make it much cheaper than it already is, Ps3 is just starting baby

Just a little hint about video game development.  No console ever maxes out its graphical potential.  Ever.

You say the X360 is running out os steam yet is selling better YOY.

And why can't it get any cheaper?  That doesn't make any sense.

@aaronsoildier.....

yes i had to go and find one when they announced they were not making that model anymore.....although i wanted one with a bigger hard drive...i wanted the 60gb stuff....

i could only find one in PC world where i was....same bundle as you but they had no copies of motor storm....lol....you got it a bit cheaper than me.....

wow a 360 arcade for £130 you can see why the uk is going for the 360....if they just want to pick up and play....i can't see how the PS3 can compete in that market....sony have gone for something else......not sure what it is though...?

isn't the wii about £179 the last time i looked but not sure......which is strangely more than an arcade.....

i wonder how many arcade 360 they have sold compared to 360 with hard drives...?...but i guess you can put a hard drive in an arcade if you want to...

£130 for an xbox is really cheap if they sold it any cheaper i don't see how they can make any money off it , i didn't say it wasn't selling strong, but it is running out of steam

Yeah they didnt have anymore Motorstorm copies for me either, what they was reserve the console for me and just waited for Motorstorm copies coming in because it was sold out. I got it from Woolworths so I cant take it back now lol, but it only had 1 year on it anyway

The Wii has been more than the arcade for a while now, the Wii is about to go up to £200, but the Wii is selling because of casual games. If Sony released a crap load of casual games on the PS3 it would be able to outsell the 360 too.

The key way to sell a console is the casual market, I read on a website last night, that Evans (from Media Molecules - LittleBigPlanet) said Sony needs to break into the casual market, and that is exactly what they should do. Its London Studio who makes all their casual games, so they need more ideas

I'm just trying to understand your logic and reason.    How is a console that is selling more this year than last year running out of steam?

Why are you guys comparing it to the 360? Thread title clearly says GCN, and XBOX 1 since its not too far either
