I remember seeing GCN WW sales at 21 million a while ago. So has the PS3 passed it or is it coming up to passing it?
Not bad for a console costing more, the only reason PS3 sales look bad is when compared to the current competition, it could be doing better, but it could be a lot worse too.
EDIT: ok wiki has it up as 21.74 million so PS3 only has a short way to go. If anyone wants a checklist from the 6th gen here it is (not doing one for all consoles lol):
Sega Dreamcast - 10.6 million [check]
Gamecube Nintendo - 21.74 million [almost check]
Microsoft XBOX - 24 million [next goal]
Sony PlayStation 2 - 140 million [no chance without Sony's 10 year plan]

Sony PlayStation 2 - 140 million [no chance EVEN WITH Sony's 10 year plan]
Just had to fix that for you. Every major console has a "10 year plan" by the way. Sony is the only one touting it around like some bonus feature.

Ok yeah, it doesnt have much of a chance in beating the PS2, but beating PS1 maybe. I think they'll drag out this 10 year thing, they are talking about it a lot, I dont think Sony thought PS2 would last this long, but PS3 could last just as long because the technology it has is built to last. It is currently the most powerful console, however, next gen, it will likely be the least powerful, becoming the PS1/2 once again, and by that time, It will be $200 at most.
Just my speculation, but if Sony wants the PS3 to be a success, they should do the above, and this is why they dont need to drop the price immediately, maybe mid 2009, or $50 now and $50 towards the end of the year. They just need to start profitting first.
