Forums - Microsoft - Any chances of Microsoft releasing a handheld system?

Could MS handle Games on Windows, Xbox 720 and a handheld.. that's my main thought.

Can Microsoft handle Games for Windows and Xbox 360?

^^totally agree. Handhelds are to Nintendo what OS is to MS.

If MS released the xbox to stop sony from dominating the home entertainment market they were watching the wrong horse.

Apple are now in a far better position than sony ever was to do this.

Now with appleTV beginning at last to take off and literally ever major audio/visio manufacturer producing TVs and Stereos with the iPod dock built-in watch this space.

You really don't think MS is aware that Apple has absolutely destroyed their Zune business, and is dramatically increasing marketshare in the OS market?  Go look at their financials, or read any investor/financial article related to Microsoft and you will see they are very aware.

Oh, I am damn sure that they are aware of Apple growing ambitions. What part of my post led you to believe that I thought MS wasn't aware of it?

You must have misunderstood my meaning by MS looking at the wrong horse. Let me clarify.

At no point did sony have the online infrastructure to dominate the home entertainment market. That's why I find talk of MS entering the console market to stop sony dominating the home entertainment market silly.

Dominance of the home entertainment market will come from among other things online content. iTunes control 70%+ of all worldwide legal music downloads and is rapidly eating it's way into the movie download shares. Who else can compete with the quantity of download applications?

As mention this is where the battle for home entertainment will be fought and won. When could sony ever compete?

And compete with the DS? I don't think thats somthing they would want to do. I mean, look what happened to Sony.

What exactly happened to Sony? PSP is selling great. I don't know what you're talking about.

Not a 360 fanboy, just a PS3 fanboy hater that likes putting them in their place ^.^

he's assuming that the psp is performing poorly because of how well the ds is doing.

Microsoft released the Zune, right? Doesn't the Zune play applications? This means it plays games. If anything, one can see them beef up the Zune over time.

With how well the DS is doing, it wouldn't be in their best interests.

Lets be honest here. M$ have brought some good innovation to console gaming, namely good online service and achivements.

But the type of innovation tha Nintendo does is not M$ strong point. M$ would be silly at this time to bring out a handheld. It needs to be something more than good Live interactivity. That would only get M$ so far.

Nintendo rule the roost with handhelds, and Sony PSP sells very well. It just looks bad next to DS.
