Sony's Steinberg says 2009 lineup is 'relentless, AAA-quality'

Speaking with David Radd at GameDaily, VP of Product Marketing at SCEA, Scott Steinberg, wants you to know that, if you were under the impression Sony had "punched itself out," you're mistaken! Citing Killzone 2 as the beginning of, "a great lineup [that is] relentless and AAA-quality," Steinberg names MLB 09: The Show and this summer's inFamous as two titles that are, "going to arrest the momentum from competitors." That's without mentioning the Heavy Rains and Uncharted 2s of the world, we might add.

And though Steinberg's remarks are filled with marketing speak (that's the technical
term, folks), we can't help but agree that the company's 2009 lineup seems a lot more fleshed out three months into the year than its competitors. Maybe next week's Game Developer's Conference will change some of that. We'll just have to wait and see.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

Well right now neither of their competition (Microsoft and Nintendo) have showed their big guns yet. They are both holding out for a bit. Sony does have a good lineup this year but you also can't compare it to anything because everyone is keeping hush hush on what they really have. The only games we know about for Microsoft are games announced years ago or the newest Halo: ODST announced slightly after E3 2008.

It would seem so!

Same thing happened last year.  We knew about every big game from Microsoft last year years in advance, except for Gears 2 and Viva Pinata 2.  Even then, Gears 2 was heavily rumored, kind've like Forza 3 and ME2 now (though ME2 ended up being a 2010 title, something I did not expect).

Fable, Banjo, and Lost Odyssey were all announced in 2006 or earlier.  Same goes for their titles this year, like Alan Wake.

I doubt MS will announce much for this year outside of Forza 3 and a new Rare project.

It's really only Nintendo that holds things close to their chest these days.  Just look at Mario Kart.  Sony and Microsoft announce new a few things pretty close to release (Resistance 2, MotorStorm 2, Gears 2, Viva Pinata 2, and soon Ratchet & Clank Future 2 and probably Forza 3), but not much.  Most of their titles get the God of War III and Halo: ODST treatment.

It looks like it.

I mean we dont know any game coming from nintendo.

And 360 has anounced 2 games so far:
Ninja blade and halo odst

PS3 has 2 90+ games already out and infamous is 2 months away xD

Well we found out about Lips, Ninja Blade, You're In the Movies, Gears of War 2 and Viva Pinata 2 all really late or happened to be because of rumor. They also had the whole NXE thing which was rumored close to E3.

While a lot of those games ended up sucking I doubt MS is only going to announce a new Rare game. I know Peter M has a new game he wants to show and M.S. said they are going to try to break the bank at E3 so one or two more games wouldn't really do that because that'd be ordinary. I'm going to have to say E3 this year we are going to hear about a lot of games because it looks like Microsoft purposely has not been feeding us anything so by the time E3 rolls around we will be so hungry that everything will look better than it really is.
