Ninja Gaiden Sigma was only a slet down to me because it was no different then NGB was. However, to those who never played NG, it was a fantastic game. NG2 is the best Ninja Gaiden game ever, so its very likely Sigma 2 will also be the best NG ever made.

No, Ninja Gaiden II is not better than Sigma.
Sigma's platforming and puzzles were so much better, and it had two playable characters. It ran smoother, didn't have glitches that make you start over, far better camera, better boss fights and the water parts weren't as bad. Ninja Gaiden 2 seemed rushed at the times.

Ha...funny.
Ninja Gaiden 2>Ninja Gaiden Black> Ninja Gaiden Sigma> Ninja Gaiden
Rachel as a playable character was by far the worst design choice I had seen in the series to date, I can't recall any game breaking glitches from the 5 times I played through NG2 or during the playthrough with Sigma either. They both ran smooth as peanut butter except for a few moments in NG2 where slowdown fu**ed the game. The camera was no better then any past Ninja Gaidens, and the boss fights were worse by a large margin. They weren't as cheap as NGBlack, but they were still 100 percent more unfair then Ninja Gaiden 2's fights, not nearly as fast paced, and did far more damage per hit. Ninja Gaiden Sigma was Ninja Gaide Black on PS3 with better graphics.
What else?

NG2 had A LOT of slowdown, much more than Sigma did. It's camera was way worse because it focused on directly on Ryu this time, so it was a lot harder to trach down other ninjas. If you ever went to the Gamefaqs forums, you'd have seen that other users had problems with glitches too. One of the stages I was on, I had to restart the game because because fiend that I was suspose to shoot down with an arrow had got stuck and I couldn't go anywhere until all of them were killed.
NG2's water fights were just awful. I'm talking Wii-like awful. The Boss fights in Sigma were much more fun and challenging. I'll never forget Alma EVER. And the Doku fight was amazing.

Alma was annoying, not fun. Hence where the phrase 'Fucking Alma' came from.
NG2 didn't have that much slowdown. In all my play times I've only always had slowdown in 2 parts in the game, and its always the same two parts--near the end when you fight the 100 basic ninjas all at the same time when climbing the stairs to Elizabet, and during the second level when crossing the bridge in the rain and your bombarded by the purple demons. Other then that, I've never noticed it if it happens; I guess even the slowdown runs smoothly. I've never had any problems with the camera in the Ninja Gaiden series whatsoever, because there is a 'snap the samera behind you' button that you dont need to move your hand to use. So I can't complain about the camera, since every NG has had the exact same camera for me. The thing was that Ninja Gaiden 2 had much more precise controls then Black and Sigma did, so the camera wouldn't even have been as much a problem if you know what direction to aim in.
NG2's water fights were a single level, and not even half of that level. There was the uber annoying water dragon fight and canal fight with the silverfish. The silverfish were cake, so the only real annoyance was the water dragon and the damn ghost pirhana. But really, 1 fight in the game over water isn't enough for me to be able to complain about; at least they made the fight easier then most bosses, though still a pain in the ass.
