@ teris: it's not really fair to compare a cutscene to whatever happens in the gameplay. I doubt anyone would find the game enjoyable if they got whacked by a single shot each and every time. Isara getting shot with a single round, making it impossible to quickly protect her from other incoming rounds, made perfect sense. And I'm with Auron on this one, it's a very important part of the story.
1) it gives us an amazing song :p
2) it gives you a beautiful link to the absolute end of the game
3) it ties in chars you have encountered before with the storyline afterwards
4) it gave her dream the perfect push for it to become important at the end of the story.
It wasn't a scene just to make people care about her more or something, it actually developed the game and its story. I wouldn't say that the impact was as big as Aeris'/Aerith's death but it did launch the game into another gear, and gave the "war" an even more grim outlook (since casualties alway happen, even though you try your best to avoid them).
