I can't say enough about this game. This is the third thread I've made in the past week about it. I apologize for the spam. This time there are intimate details about the plot so don't read if you haven't played the game yet.
I just finished it last night at 2am, alone in my living room, and for the first time in my life, I actually clapped in front of my tv about a game. Was I delirious? Maybe. But I can say that I was totally immersed from start to finish.
Tears fell down my face in that INFAMOUS death scene (You know what I'm talking about!) that rivals that of FF7's. When the heroine decided to sacrifice herself for her country, I was yelling at 'her' (My tv, really), "NOOOOoooo", and got teary eyed again when that aloof hero decided to realize his true feelings for her on the spot.
On to the subject of the thread. You fellas who've played the game, which was your favorite mission?
Mine would be 'the battle of barious' (chapter 7), where you had to take on Maximillian's huge tank along with the invincible Valkyria. it took me 9 tries, but when I was finally able to do it, I felt an extreme satisfaction at downing that hulk of a machine, without having to level up on the side, and I did it with A rank too! Here's how I did it, in summary:
-had four lancers, one scout, one shocktrooper, and two engineers.
-sent the Edelweiss far away to the southeastern camp as fast as possible. I didn't use it to fight at all because after many tries, I found that my main problem was the fact that the thing is far too bulky to fit with the huge tank in the same battlefield, and I found my radiator exposed to anti-tank fire too many times.
-sent the scout to the second camp to defend it, because I found that reinforcements were the prime reason why my lancers had the most difficulty getting in position to shoot.
-had the shocktrooper defend the south trench because I realized that all of their troops took that route and wasted my lancers there.
-destroyed the gun turrets as fast as possible, and cut down all three radiators' hp to one shot left to kill the first time the tank exposes them. I found that the radiators retain the hp they have left. This was critical because when Selvaria comes along, you have fewer chances to shoot the radiators safely, so the ability to destroy the things with one shot when she's there saves a lot of hp.
-evacuated everyone after destroying the first radiator except for two lancers and an engineer, whom I hid in the south border of the map behind some walls, and waited there for the tank to expose the radiators. Selvaria wasn't a factor at all anymore because she had no one left to shoot. As mentioned, all of their troops take the south trench behind the big tank. In essence, I used the enemy tank as cover while I shot the thing from the other side.
-after all the radiators were gone, I just shot the thing to death with the two lancers from far away.
Voila, A rank! :D
