Forums - Sales - 8 millions xbox 360 in europe (vgchartz: more than 11M for others) = WTF???

Hocarino -

The issue is that the 8 million units is not a new number. It's old:
http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=55617

That's 8 million in EMEA by the end of 2008. Maybe the number is 8 million in east + west Europe? Either way, it's very difficult to ascertain exact units sold, due to the simple fact that every press release quantifies a different area. Is this press release talking only of Western Europe (no emerging markets, no EMEA?)?

Furthermore, the 8m press release as of this week offers no data breakdowns on what regions they're talking about - It could exclude 'other Europe' (West of Germany) or Scandanavia. Again, we have NO idea what areas they're discussing.

Also, I provided the GfK breakdown of just 4 countries that totaled 5.3 million. I tend to think that the rest of Europe could provide the 2.7m needed to equal 8m consoles sold by 2008 in Europe.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Wow, not only can some of the newer posters in this thread not read, but a good portion of the others in this thread can't even look up data correctly!

Let's not even go into the fact that this 8 million figure is nearly 3 months old!

So Microsoft said that 8 million in Europe (doesn't include Australia and such), and according to VGC, there were about 7.5 million sold in Europe. Link for those unable to figure it out. All you have to do is look at 360 total sales in Total Others (10.5 million) and subtract those that are not in Europe (namely - Other Europe, Australia, and Other, though Scandinavia may not be included in Microsoft's numbers either), and you get 7.5 million or 7 million if you subtract Scandinavia.

Please, do some research (both original poster and haters) before you come in here and start yelling for adjustments. You'll just get embarressed. That is all.

THE 8 MILLION FIGURE IS OVER 3 MONTHS OLD READ THE THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@mrstickball : VGchartz sales is a prediction not real date, MS says has 8 million X360's shipped in Europe, VGcharts has 8.9 million SOLD in Europe, is totally fals, and 2.5 million with others? This is impossible.

VGCHARTZ has a good intenction but wrong sales, who is the admin of this site?

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG

READ THIS PR DATED JAN 5th 2009:

XBOX 360™ RECORDS BEST EUROPEAN CHRISTMAS IN ITS HISTORY, EIGHT MILLION CONSOLES SOLD TO DATE

LONDON - 5th January 2009: Xbox® today revealed sales data showing Christmas 2008 was the biggest sales period ever in the brand’s six-year European history, with sales of Xbox 360™ almost double those of Christmas 2007<1>. Eight million Xbox 360 consoles have been sold in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA)<2> up to the end of 2008, widening its lead over PlayStation 3 in the region to more than one million and setting the scene for further growth in 2009.

GfK-ChartTrack data shows that Xbox 360 was the fastest-growing console of 2008, with sales in the fourth quarter of 2008 over double that of the same period in 2007, spurred on by a mix of value, great games and entertainment, and the recently-launched New Xbox Experience.

Chris Lewis, Regional Vice President, Interactive Entertainment Business EMEA, said:“Christmas 2008 was a resounding success for Xbox 360. 2008 saw us grow faster than any of our competitors and we over-achieved in sales during the crucial Christmas selling period. We reduced the entry-level Xbox 360 ERP in September, understanding the need for great value, and European consumers have responded enthusiastically. With eight million consoles sold since we launched, and consistently out-selling PlayStation 3 in EMEA, we’re poised to build on this success in 2009. This success was only possible through our partnerships with retail and with publishers, with whom we’ve worked closely to build a strong ecosystem in the region and to bring value to our shared customer base. As we move into 2009 and an uncertain economic climate, we continue to be committed to offering the right blend of gaming and entertainment experiences at the right price.”

Nick Gibson, Founding Analyst, Games Investor Consulting, said:“Microsoft appears to have enjoyed an excellent end to 2008 in Europe. According to GFK Chart Track data, the Xbox 360 recorded in excess of 100% growth in December sales compared to 2007 across the UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain, well ahead of any other console. It also recorded comfortably the highest rate of year-on-year growth for the final quarter of 2008 overall.”

Nick Parker, Founder and Games Analyst, Parker Consulting, said:“I have seen early returns for the December 2008 sales data indicating that Xbox 360 has shown a significant sales increase year on year and furthermore is ahead of its nearest rival in terms of lifetime consumer hardware sales in the EMEA region, with an installed base of over eight million units.”

- Ends -

<1> Sales figures are Microsoft estimates based upon GfK-ChartTrack data

<2> EMEA region includes: UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Portugal, Greece, Poland, Czech Republic, Russia, Hungary, Slovakia, South Africa, and UAE

THIS SAYS THAT AT THE END OF 2008 THEY HAD SOLD THROUGH 8 MILLION UNITS IN EMEA. CORRABATED WITH GFK DATA WHICH MEANS SOLD THROUGH. WITH AN ADDITIONAL ANALYST THAT SAW THE PRE-LEM SALE THROUGH NUMBERS IN THE TERRITORY OF OVER 8 MILLION INSTALLED BASE.

THIS NEWS IS NOW NEARLY THREE MONTHS OLD AND AT THAT TIME WE SAW THIS SAME DAMN THREAD.

8 millions three months ago? It was shipped.
In three months sold more than 1 million in Europe alone? this is a joke, and others is high for all consoles, when will go out the real dates VGChartz will edit their numbers,PSP is undertracked, shipped 45/50 millions in the world for nothing? The japanese numbers are real, because when Famitsu sales out VG chartz posts the japanese sales.
Here,all rights.

@KatinJin:

For Hardwarehouse those numbers are sold to retails not real sold in the world. Sony says with others surpasses XBOX360 than 300.000

People are giving you an explanation but you refuse to listen.

WRONG, note the analyst at the end who actually saw the SOLD through numbers. Yea. They note GFK just like they did back in November and when Eurogamer got the numbers they were sold through 1 million lead over the PS3 back then as well.

SORRY THEN AND NOW

rival in terms of lifetime consumer hardware sales in the EMEA region, with an installed base of over eight million units.”

CONSUMER HARDWARE SALES AT THE END OF 2008

@Katin:

Sony says no,PS3 with others leads XBOX360 by a little numbers and VG chartz numbers is false,Famitsu Sales is a dimostration.

No one believes Sony PR anymore please. Just like they said they had a 300k or so lead in PAL land last year around November and it got blown out of the water when Eurogamer actually saw the numbers in November and stated just as MS said they had over a million lead and growing at that point.
