If you give someone two things to choose from that both give the same reward, is it even a real choice at all since neither path matters in the end?

Well technically it is a choice, but yeah as you said it doesn't matter so it might as well not be there. However if the player does not know that the same path is given through both choices then entertainment is still given to them as they believe that they are altering their gaming experience.... ow my brain!

So if the player has fun regardless of the outcome then would it make a difference if you rewarded the player but didn't say so ahead of time?
