| mrstickball said: naznatips - You call the 360 outselling the PS3 by 31% for the entire year 'basically the same'? Throw on the fact that the Wii outsold both consoles combined, and it builds a bigger, better case for games to just go to the Wii exclusively. That's bad for both Sony and MS. That's why I'd think that MS needs to do something, if developers begin to shift to the Wii more and more. |
For the entire year of a price cut. Wow, who'd have thought?
The 360 tracks about 20% above the PS3 this year, now that the dust has settled, and its a gap that only closes the futher away you get from the price cut. This is just how price cuts work.
Now, that aside, the Wii of course is outselling the PS3 and 360 combined, and is by far the most financially viable platform for software development. Are you seriously defending what's happening on the HD platforms? Multiplatform or exclusive, HD development is putting dozens of companies out of business, and already has put handfuls. What 3rd party aside from Epic is really gaining from the HD consoles? Now think of the list of how many are dying.
It doesn't matter how much money Microsoft spends. HD development will kill many more 3rd parties this generation, and the ones that will survive the generation will not be focusing their projects on HD consoles. It's too expensive. If the Wii and DS hadn't been here by this point in the generation gaming as an industry may have died.
By the way, stop acting like just because they have a lot of money Microsoft's purchases and decisions don't have to be financially viable. That's an incredibly silly argument. They have no loyalty to gamers. No company does. They have loyalty to money, and whatever they do they have to justify to investors. They aren't going to just throw billions around to make you happy.
