Definitely Amano, creative, imaginative, magical, artsy, emotional, colourful... Everything a Final Fantasy game should be.

I dont even see how there is a question. Nomura has one great game, maybe two.
Amano, has become world famous full-fledged artist at this point. It's like comparing Akira to the old X-men cartoons on fox. Both might be good, but one there is a vast distance in quality.

I like his art style but it isnt that detailed. The whimsical feel of it all gives a very nice impression(very well suited for the Logo designs) but not enough to be usable in the character designs. The colors in his images are also always washed out and almost merge into one color, not that colorful.

Couldn't agree with you more, without Nobuo Uematsu, Final Fantasy games are incomplete. 

Nomura, though some of his designs are hilariously bad (a few from FFX, for example).

Amano's artwork actually turns me off. Nomura has more of an anime style, while Amano's just seems uneven and odd to me.
