Forums - Microsoft - If the PS3 drops to $300 Microsoft should:

@Outlaw, unfortunately it didn't outsell either year. You may be thinking about the alligned hardware graphs instead.

MS should just laugh at Sony for destroying whole company for one product.

Xbox 360 still has a lot of options to it, Although your idea of 1 free year of xbox live gold has some merit. Although 1 free year is too much, I can see them including a 14 day, or 1 month trial with every Xbox Pro and Elite to help boost sales of Xbox Live Gold.

I don't think Microsoft would accept defeat from a simple price-drop. Obviously Microsoft knows that sony has a price-cut lined up and will have they're own options to counter it.

Every Xbox already ships with the ability to create three free 1-month gold accounts (basically, if you decline gold - it offers you a 1 month free trial anyway, and it will do this for three accounts per box.)  It's been this way all along.

I dont think there is much Microsoft could do.

The 360 is already affordable,I think another pricecut wouldn't do much at all.

I would make XBL free, throw in a few games free with a purchase of a 360 and hope for the best.

I'd go with:

J) hasten the release of halo4

:)

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:

a. a AAA 3D sonic title

b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"

c. redesgined PS controller

d. SEGA back in the console business

e. M$ out of the OS business

A - It depends when the PS3 price drop is - if it was tomorrow, then MS would be foolish to do this

B - Seems likely, or just upgrade the 256 mb flash to 512mb or 1gb. But it wouldn't do much to counteract the price cut

C - I'm not sure how effective this has been

D - Could work

E - reduces the amount of money MS makes without greatly increasing the perception of value amongst the general public = terrible idea

F - Uh, you a little drunk?

G - They have already said they will react to a PS3 price cut

H - Quit now, at their moment of triumph?? Seems unlikely

I - No comment

I figure Microsoft will sit on their ass overall and let Sony bleed money profusely to the tune of over $100 per console sold. If they want they can spend some small bucks to grab exclusivity for some game of perceived importance to stay relevant while Sony basically hopes a price cut is the miracle worker, which it won't be.

Option C to me seems kinda silly; I don't think exclusive DLC is that important. It certainly doesn't shift hardware.

Option Z: Wait for the Sony shareholders to pull the plug on the PS3 project given the huge amount of money they would be losing cutting price by $100. It's a stupid question as there is no way Sony will introduce a $100 pricecut.

Ö) Wait for Sony to go bankrupt or get bailed out by the Japanese govt and then buy off some of their studios and IPs.
