Forums - PC - MMORPG without classes.

I'm looking for an MMORPG that doesn't have classes. I just realized how much I hate them. One reason is that I hate not being able to use certain items just because my class doesn't match. Another reason and probably my main reason is that I like to change fighting styles. Sometimes I feel like using magic other times I want to use physical attacks. So far the only MMORPG that I have found that ditches preset classes is runescape, and the community is really bad imo. Another thing that I would like is for the quests to have depth, and not the find x amount of this item, and kill x amount of this creature. So does anybody have recommendations?

Shin Megami Tensei online is pretty fun. It's what i'm playing right now.

Though it's more modern setting like.

FFXI doesn't have classes, it has jobs. :-p

BUT, if it makes you happy, you do have your job and subjob. So you could run around as something like a Black Mage/White Mage or you could run around as a Warrior/White Mage and you can freely change as much as you'd like.

Roll a druid in WoW. You get it all for the price of one, literally.

Just watched the trailer. It actually looks nice.

@Twesterm Does FFXI have a free trial? I want to try it first.

30 day free trial, with the purchase of the game $20.

Then there is Runes of Magic, where it has the same idea FFXI does, but with WoW like graphics.  It's free and extremely good.

  • 2010 MUST Haves: WKC, Heavy Rain, GoWIII, Fable III, Mass Effect 2, Bayonetta, Darksiders, FFXIII, Alan Wake, No More Heroes 2, Fragile Dreams: FRotM, Trinity: SoZ, BFBC2.
  • Older Need To Buys: Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mario Kart Wii, Deadspace, Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2.

There is definitely more to list that I want, but that's my main focus there.

It does. I believe from the main website, http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/index.shtml, look at the Odin picture at the top saying BUY NOW OR FREE TRIAL. Click that to be redirected to http://www.finalfantasyxi.com/ to access a free trial. The game is HEAVILY dependent on your hardware at times, mainly RAM and your graphics card at times for smoother gameplay. I prefer it over WoW, as WoW you can only make a character with one class and that's it, as for FFXI one character has unlimited potential with freely switching classes (jobs).

FFXI > ∞ > WoW
