@g-value: What you should do is actualy explain in more than 5 words why you hate FFXII. I have reasons to dislike VIII, and I'm always willing to explain to whoever is willing to listen. You only saying "FFXII is garbage" makes me think you never gave the game much of a chance.

At the sake of sounding like a fanboy, I'll have to say ff7.

well i can tell you some reasons why i hate it, boring combat, boring story, annoying characters, the only thing i liked about it was the graphics

I find it odd that you removed "FF7 haters would just turn it into a discussion about how bad FF7 is. I thought FF7 was a great game though."

I don't see much of a difference compared to this FFVII vs FFXII thread, except that FFXII is more love it OR hate it and generally emotions towards FFX are less extreme. There's been very little FFVII bashing in this thread, so why would there automatically be a lot in that?

As Carl pointed out so long ago, in a FFVI vs FFVII there'd most likely be a lot of bashing from both sides, but fortunately nearly everyone has gone without mentioning FFVI or any other main series game for that matter.

For the record, I put X and VII roughly equal in my personal favorites. I liked the characters and story of X better, but I probably have to give the edge to VII because of the sheer number of hours I poured into it.
