Man... what a whinge fest.

Yeah, and for good reason. If they started charging you $80 to $100 a game, slowed it down, reduced the resolution and gave you everything 8 months later than other English speaking nations, you'd say a big Fuck You to the publishers as well.

I'm from Australia...

Either

1) Cop it.

or

2) Be Smart and Import if you don't like it.

Fine! I'll import! OH WAIT! SONY HAD LIK-SANG SHUT DOWN AND SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF PLAY-ASIA. I don't know if you can still get the other consoles, but I do know that it basically became impossible to import a PS3 in the UK. If it were region locked we'd really be screwed.

"I easilly can understand why UK have to wait for the european localisation, it's because UK is in EU, and therefore every game released in UK, means that the game is released everywhere in the EU. But for Australia, i think it doesn't have any other basis than that it's PAL. Which sucks."

This makes no sense at all. Why the hell do I need the French and German languages on my disk? Why not role it out country by country? OH WAIT, THEY DO! We don't get ALL the translations the smaller European nations eventually recieve. Publishers have progressive rollouts, starting with the Western EU nations, moving to the less spoken ones. Here in the UK we typically get German, French and Itallian bundeled. Why not then release for the UK alone?

The UK/US exchange rate is particularly strong. About 2:1 currently. A $60 game costs 50 pounds here. That's a $40 extra (tax is included, but hey, some states don't have to worry). A $50 game costs 40 pounds here: $30 extra. A Wii costs 180 pounds, or about $110 extra. A 360 Premium Costs 250 pounds, or about $150 extra. A PS3 is 425 pounds, or about $350 extra (the extras have a US worth of $140 or something, for a $200 extra cost). That's pretty steep I'd say

Yeah it just sounds like you are whinging dude... it's not the game companies fault that the UK falls into Europe.

It doesn't make commercially viable sense to create another version of the game when they can avoid it... I don't think people really understand that it doesn't just take burning the information onto a disc, it requires the WHOLE checking, bug testing process to be done again on the entire game when you create another version.

Guess what, it's too bad that those countries haven't adopted english as their main language... stop whinging and cop it that you were born in a lower priority (to the rest of the world) and stop acting all high and might about it.

I used to get so pissed off about the delays, but honestly the wait is worth it in the end and another couple of months isn't the end of the world for me.

At least Galaxy is on time.

WTF??!!!?!?!?

I completely doubt they have to do complete end to end bug-checking and testing to make sure a game runs PAL, especially when 3D engines are so readily scalable. As far as I can see that's the only reason they can't give us THE EXACT SAME VERSION OF A GAME as the US. IE almost ZERO additional cost.

It certainly doesn't warrant adding 60% to the cost. And a delay (sometimes more than a year).

Why in the hell aren't you pissed off? How can you be so apathetic?

I didn't say I wasn't whinging, I said I was whinging for a very good reason.

Continuing to treat Europe as a third rate conglomerate nation is shitty and retarded, particularly when as a whole we're bigger than Japan, and in the UK (which is certainly big on its own) there should be little effort required. Being extra shitty to us has certainly been one of the biggest factors in PS3's poor performance here. This was Sony land. Now it's not.

whattt??

I guess thats why some of my games in my gaming libary actualy can only be played on a 60 Hz tv...I don't care why we don't get the games in time but when we pay almost 70 USD for a game before VAT I think that we could get some games in time. Devlope the 50 Hz on the same time then!

Now these games that can only be played on 60 Hz TVs are Metroid Prime 2, OoT/Masterquest disc and Zelda Collector's disc. I don't know of any others.

The reason why I put up some positive words for Nintendo in this thread is only because all other companies are just as bad and singling out Nintendo isn't fair. I am not happy how we PAL gamers are treated by these companies, but acting like Nintendo is (one of) the worst of all of them is taking it a bit too far, unless someone can provide a few examples of other companies that treat PAL gamers better.

@omgwtfbbq

You are right, it's a shame that VC console games are still restricted to 50 Hz only. I can't comment on the issue of OoT because I haven't played it on the Wii.

Don't forget the original point of yours I replied to was that you said that Nintendo always treated the PAL territorities as third class countries. I was merely pointing out that Nintendo has done some good things for us in the past. Of course it could be clearly better than it is right now, but other companies don't seem to care much for PAL countries as well. The only publishers that seem to care more are european ones.

oh fine, pedantic boy! Maybe occasionally Nintendo has done Australia a good service (DS Lite launch most prominently) but I still stand by my point. Just because occasionally Nintendo does something nice doesn't mean they're not being particularly bad (just look at the analysis in the first post.

I feel for you all, my international brothers and sisters. I TOO think all the companies including Nintendo need to tighten up on the release delays between regions. There's gonna be delays but they shouldn't take whole years to overcome. Australia should get the same allotment that goes to U.K. since both are English speaking countries and under the PAL TV standard. Australia/New Zealand are right next door neighbors practically to Japan. Send a ship over to them on way to Americas or other PAL regions and take care of them.

It's the population really. They don't see you quite as important due to low level of population in comparison to other regions. I thought Aussieland had 50 million people. I read the census facts from Wikipedia and you guys only have 20 to 21 million! I'm like WHOA! And what of this number is an audience that plays games? Half? 50%? 10 million? A quarter? 25%? 5 million? A rough seventh? About 3 million? And then of this amount which people are Nintendo-loyal? XBox-loyal? Sony-loyal? This is what's going on which is why you guys keep getting disrespected.

I'd say unite with Hong Kong and try to set up a gamemarket union with a growing area like China or India if they ever become viable. Trying to unite with Euro Union is tough 'cause of location. You're on the whole other side of the world.

I'm sure if Australia was NTSC then you all would get the American shipment and wouldn't be as left out. Ethnically and culturally different than your neighbors sort of makes you all islands unto yourselves, sadly. Which is literally what Australia and New Zealand are...islands.

I accept delays. That doesn't bother me. But what does bother me is total disregard for a region who wants to buy from you. Europe is hard because of all those many cultures in a tight land mass. Different languages and tastes per region even if population is doable. Japan is home base and culturally/ethnically homogenous. The Americas at least Canada and USA are culturally similar (even between the varying subculture) and homogenous with lots of land mass and population with a consumer culture. Latin America has infrastructure problems not to mention great wealth inequity making sales there difficult. Africa is either war torn, economically unfeasible due to inequity or even technological attitudes or too isolated to make great strides there. I'd love to see Africa become a base of economic prosperity for more reasons than one obviously seeing who I am as a Black man.

Middle East/West Asia has cultural issues that probably prevent a lot of content from seeing light of day not to mention economical inequities there not to mention wars. India same thing. The caste system is poisonous to making this place a real base though with all the outsourcing there things will eventually change hopefully. China has the people but Japan & China got old grudges that need to be mended and then there's the "counterfeit jeans" situation of piracy which also affects other PAL regions in Africa, Latin America and such. Korea same thing on the cultural grudges and then like China they've subscribed to the PC gaming culture. Russia, economics and PC infiltration. Iceland, isolated. Greenland, whale blubber. Antarctica, penguins and really really cold temperatures (though this may be a plus for 360's issues. joking joking!)

Nintendo fights in Europe because of this historical oversight. Even if the region is smaller pick it up. Every bit counts. Associate it with a larger region to save costs but include it. I hope things improve for neglected regions like you. I'm surprised many stay console gamers seeing as how they are treated all the time.

For once I have to give credit to MS for pushing worldwide launches to make gaming more simultaneous for peoples around the world.

If they can't work out the delays then give special bonuses to the neglected regions like Mario Strikers Charged coming out there long before anywhere else and special colors and collector editions. Something to show that you care about this salesbase. 'Cause ya should.
