you should have just practiced more, i played SF4 last week at my friends house, i beat my friend at my first game, i got raped online though but that is not the game's fault it was just my first time.

Lots of gamers these days want games to be handed to them on a plate. Die more than twice on one section and it's unfair. Too hard, blah, blah. Pretty fucking sad imo. |
I think there should have been a way to se a person's win/loss ratio or some other metric to show how good a player is so that people like the OP would have an idea what kind of player they're going against (disconnects should count as losses). The present system could put you against the winner of the gamespot tournament and you would just get your ass handed to you. It's hard to improve your skills when you play people who are waaay ahead of you because you rarely get a chance to do much. I know because I'm pretty good and soul calibur Iv and have handed lots of perfects where my opponents messaged me basically saying "wtf just happened?". Some just aren't gluttons for punishment.
This is probably one of the reasons why soul calibur 4 sold more.

You shouldn't have done that. At first i was really having a lot of trouble with Seth and stuff but now Seth is no longer a problem, and i have it for... like a week
And most people online are so cheap / bad it's not even funny, here is the real problem with SF4:

OP: I'm the same way, I grew up playing Sf2/3/ex series etc but I skipped over Sf4 because I don't play like I used to and I know I probably suck now. In the Nes N64 days I would always try new games without knowing anything about them and beat them even if they were hard. Now a days if a game is too frustrating I just quit and never play it again, not sure why but games don't hold my attention this gen.

There's no such thing as cheapness in this game. The problem is with you if the opponent is spamming a move and you can't counter it.

Yes, there IS cheapness, and I didn't said it was a problem, did I? Jesus, stop acting like this
But don't tell me you're freaking happy when the guy waits for you to pick your character, then picks ken (after you've played like 20 kens), and proceeds to JUMP KICK LOW KICK SHORYUKEN JUMP KICK LOW KICK SHORYUKEN JUMP KICK LOW KICK SHORYUKEN JUMP KICK LOW KICK SHORYUKEN JUMP KICK LOW KICK SHORYUKEN JUMP KICK LOW KICK SHORYUKEN JUMP KICK LOW KICK SHORYUKEN JUMP KICK LOW KICK SHORYUKEN JUMP KICK LOW KICK SHORYUKEN JUMP KICK LOW KICK SHORYUKEN JUMP KICK LOW KICK SHORYUKEN the whole goddamned match
Or even freaking worse, a Zangief comes and then it starts LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT LARIAT
AND when they realize you can actually COUNTER this shit, they disconnect
I'm not saying i'm a pro, i have like 90 wins out of 130 matches, but this shit is annoying

cheapness is synonymous with fighting games. Many just find trick ways to win instead of actually learning to play. You think those things are bad...ever played an Akuma who only threw fireballs (note that his fire firebals hit 3 times and he can throw them from a jump as well and teleport away if you manage to get close)?

I did play a few akumas online, yes, i destroyed the majority of then, and i enjoy playing Akuma myself sometimes, mostly because i love his ultra and super (and i still need the super combo trophies)
His "3 hits fireball" actually have a fairly big charging time so it isn't really cheap, but i really love it, because when you find a hadouken spammer, throw one at them and they never expect it to pass through their hadoukens and burn them, then they won't know what the hell to do lol
His teleport can trick you good though, good thing i'm a Vega, you can't get away from me :P

I've figured out ways around it myself but I was totally lost the first time I met someone who played like that. The charging time isn't significant because when one goes through, you have the upper hand in the fireball battle till the opponent jumps. I usually play as cammy but haven't played since killzone 2 launched...it's just waaay more fun lol.

I'd pick aging gamer who can't cut it anymore. Don't take offense. Let me explain.
Hey it happens. These games are built upon quick reflexes & we get slower when we age if we don't keep 'em fine tuned.
The stuff I used to do on the NES & SNES as a kid & teen I have much more difficulty doing now in my young 30's. I've become slow especially playing laidback games like Animal Crossing. Games slowed down in what Sean Malstrom called the Cinema Era where the PlayStation rose to prominence. Press a button here & there to advance a cutscene more than that twitchy reflex play of the old arcades. It's been almost 20 years since SFII came out! Of COURSE we're slower.
Even the old N64 wrestling games (WCW/nWo World Tour, WCW/nWo Revenge, WWF Wrestlemania 2000, WWF No Nercy) I used to play religiously I have fallen off in skill there too. Slower-paced overall than the fighting games but takes speed & precision reflexes to block, dodge, and get up off the mat. You don't play for awhile & your skills will drop off like anything else.
But all that means is that you got to get back in shape, that's all. This is what gaming used to be. A challenge! Games used to make you WANT to break the controller! I should know. It's why I don't have my original NES controllers today before I learned how to control my rage when the game whooped my ass.
Get knocked down? Then get back up & try again. Get knocked back down? Then get back up & try again.
I haven't played the game since I don't have a 360 or PS3 but I wouldn't give up on it because of a little challenge. That may mean take a break when it just ain't happening but don't sell it.
