Forums - Sony - Valkyria Chronicles/World War 2 parallels (spoilers).

So I've been playing through the game (chapter 14 now) and around chapter 9 (yeah, it took me that long), I realized that I've been pretty much playing through World War 2 anime style. It came to me because of the darcsens:

1.) Darcsen persecution = Jewish holocaust

Darcsens were being put into concentration camps, being forced into labor, killed en masse, etc..

The Jews were treated in the same way by the Germans..

After that, I started to realize a bunch of other things:

2.) The Empire = European Axis Powers

The Empire is composed of different states that came together under the leadership of one supreme leader (the emperor), with values that are present in medieval society (absolute loyalty and service to the state, racial superiority). They also were the initial aggressors of the war, with far superior military technology, especially tanks (read the glossary tab for these details).

The European Axis Powers were a collection of countries, namely Italy, Austria, Hungary, Germany, and various smaller states, that came together under the leadership of one supreme leader, the Furor Adolf Hitler, with values that exemplified the ideals of the old Roman and Greek states (the aim of Nazi Germany was to create the Third Reich and they believed their race to be superior to all others, and the aim of Italy was to restore the Roman Empire to its former glory). They were also the aggressors of the European war, and were able to conquer their surrounding lands extremely quickly because of superior military technology, especially in their tank divisions (read up on your history, and you'll find the Panzer).

3.) The Federation = European Allied Powers

The Federation was composed of various democratic states that came together to defend themselves in a military agreement against the Empire. At the start of the war, the Empire had already conquered the states to the west of its border.

The European Allied Powers were a collection of countries that included Britain, France, Poland, Norway, Denmark, and various smaller democracies that came together to defend themselves against the Axis invasion. At the start of the war, due to German superior tank divisions, France was immediately occupied (also west of the German border).

4.) Gallia = A random neutral state that gained its independence (Belgium, I think)

Gallia was a neutral country initially invaded because of its strategic importance as being right between the Empire and the Federation. It was invaded twice, also in Europan War 1. Almost the entire country was already swallowed up by the Empire in the first few weeks of the war, but was able to fight off the Imperial advance eventually as the war progressed.

Belgium was a neutral country initially invaded because it was right between Germany and France, thereby a foothold for the invasion of Western Europe. It was also invaded in world war 1. It eventually recovered its independence during the course of the war.

5.) Europa = Europe. Europan War = World War

Simple play of words. Europa looks exactly like Europe in the maps, as the Empire (Germany) is in the central part, while the Federation (France, representative of democratic states) is west of it. If you also look north of the Federation land area, there are a few islands that resemble the British isles. South of the Empire is a stretch of land that resembles Italy, while Gallia is situated right between the powers just as Belgium is in our world map.

This is all I've got at the moment. Anyone else find any other parallels?

Oh my... you were doing well till then.

A little history lesson.

The British, French and Russians were not the good guys in WW1, nor was WW1 started by Germany. It started as a result of several things

British naval buildup

Germany and French army buildup

Conflicts between countries in the new colonies

Some Duke getting hisself shot by Serbian state sponsored terrorists, Serbia being an ally of France Britain and Russia

Austria demanded legal action be taken against the assasins

Serbia, enboldened by Russias offers of support refused, and mobilised its troops

Austria, emboldened by Germany's support, mobilised its troops, but did not invade

Serbian soldiers crossed the border into Austria

Austria fought them off and invaded Serbia

B,F and R came to Serbias aid, G and I came to Austria's

oh my a game that has a setting of a continent called "europa" in the year 1938 has some resemblences to ww2 what a uncanny observation this sure was worth making a new thread

Given the amount of crappy news threads (read: News being extremely unlikely rumours from a fanboys blog site) on here, I would think an original content thread that doesn't revolve around fanboys hating on each other would actually be a welcome change.

i'm sorry for not noticing these things as quickly as you did fella. i only wanted to share my observations.

oh and thanks for the historical clarification. i was always under the impression that germany started ww1 also.
