Forums - Nintendo - Nintedo to cut -scratch that- RAISE Wii Price!

So this probably means that despite the cost of producing a ps3 is dropping, a price-drop is looking more unlikely.

I had found it shocking that the Wii hadn't ever changed in price, and that the more powerfull 360 had become cheaper. Instead the price goes up? They must be doing something wrong in the factories if it still is that expensive to make a Wii. Maybe they should take out the wi-fi. I never use the internet on my Wii.

Dude, they are making at least 50$ per Wii sold right now. This is not about selling at a profit, this is about keep selling at a BIG profit. Nintendo is swimming in money these years, and it looks like they enjoy it and would like to continue doing it.

I thought the Wii was estimated to be making $6 profit per console.

If this is accurate then no wonder Nintendo are passing costs on.

@Feylic: What makes consoles so special compared to other hardware?

My point is that it's perfectly justified to raise prices. It doesn't even matter if it reduces sales volume, profits matter a lot more in these times.

Nothing really, just that the OP has this in it, "The Nintendo Wii could be the first console in history that will not only have held its launch price for over two years,‭ ‬but actually increase it."

My point is that the OP clearly states that this is news worthy because it is a CONSOLE, then you go and throw in that other hardware makers have done the same thing and post a link to TVs. wtf?

Well about the console price increase part:

I am surprise nobody claim Nintendo is creating a false demand by raising the price causing the Wii to be sold out world wide again like in 2007.

Full of fail. The Wii cost around $150 to make at launch, and the price has without a shadow of doubt gone down.

If something starts with "analyst", you'll do best to just ignore it. Seriously.

Does the $150 include shipping, marketing and any other costs?

What was the value in Yen of the $150 figure at the time compared to now?
