Forums - Sales - 360v PS3 gap charts updated for Feb

I'm just saying it is plausible, and based on statements by NPD, Charttrack, Media Create, and Famitsu, there really isn't a lot of places that VGChartz could be significantly off for more than 1-2 months. Since you are looking at end of 08, VGChartz should be in line with reality and there should be no major discrepancies.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

And I wasn't saying that, however if the Netherlands is over or under supplied Sony will distribute more or less units to the Netherlands (as retailers order fewer or more units), that probably means other EU markets like Germany, Italy, Belgium, Spain, France, etc may get more or less units.

Like I said, all you have to go by is that local store near you. The lead is 8 million and Sony stuffed the channel.

Microsoft's claims back then regarded Microsoft's sales to retailers.

In hindsight it's clear they underestimated their competitor as the gap was really only 6.7 million worldwide.

@ kowenicki

I trust NPD, Media Create and Chart Track / GfK data estimates and they aren't equal to VGChartz data nor do they cover the world.

What I trust the most is the data reported in financial reports, as they are the most concrete and absolute.

woh the gap in "others" is getting grater again...go go 360!

so do you disregard the official numbers too?

No, that's what I used earlier within this thread.

Gotta wonder if a price cut can make up the ground this late in the game.

You used official shipment numbers not sold to retailor.

@ seece

No sold to retailer data, the PS3 sold 21.3 million units by the end of 2008.

Taking equal measures the XBox 360 sold 28 million units by the end of 2008.

Just google it.

BTW, locally the amount of systems here in stock relates directly to the box sizes. That's why the PS3 is least in stock, the 360 more so and the Wii has lots of stock because of the small box sizes. Shelf space is about equal.

I can imagine this counts for other shops as well, so if a smaller boxed slimline PS3 gets released stock levels for the PS3 will probably rise.

Wow, over 8.15 million. That's the biggest yet. Probably 9 million by E3 and 11-12 million by Jan 1st 2010. Pretty safe to say the console war is over.
