because i had more time to play games. games that were driven by the awesomesauce storyline and character development with kick ass cgi cutscenes. and not graphics and game play.

The fact that most people will find whatever they played first between 9 and 17, or whatever music they listened, the most "awesome" ever ;)
Games are not less fun today, just as old houses haven't become smaller when you go back to them.
You grew up, that's all.

Uhm, actually most posts here don't seem to indicate they think nowadays gaming wasn't awesome aswell. Atleast my own post wasn't meant to say that.

Excuse me sir but logic is not welcome in this topic.
I bite my thumb at you good sir. Now if you will excuse us we were having our afternoon Tea-stalgia.

Sincerely sorry, I stepped out of line.
To amend that, I contribute with a token:
"back then you had a real sense of accomplishment, nothing like the hand-holding we see nowadays"
Please, do go on :)

5 THINGS I'd like to see before i knock out:
a. a AAA 3D sonic title
b. a nintendo developed game that has a "M rating"
c. redesgined PS controller
d. SEGA back in the console business
e. M$ out of the OS business
Let me see:
-The SNES, for me the best console ever, best control layout (used still today by Sony's Dualshock 3, Nintendo's Classic Controller and Microsoft's 360 Controller), the introduction of 3D gaming (with the extra chips like the Super FX), rise of a lot of genres including fighting, JRPG, racing, sports, action-adventure, etc., the console even made PS and Saturn owners drool with DK Country's graphics when it came out in 1995... I can say other reasons but i think i made my point...
-Sony Computer Entertainment: Nuff said
-Square and Enix (separate) golden era
-Fighting genre's peak (Arcade places made a fortune with me)
-The original console wars (Ninty vs Sega)
But most of all, SIMPLY THE GAMES...
Great licensed titles that weren't (or at least didn't look like) limited by a low budget
the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!
Best of 2d and 3d was brand new. After that its all the same thing repeated
“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
