Just compare the in-game graphics and cutscenes, they are well different. I believe it's no secret they were are just plain movies pre-generated on a PC.

Realtime rendering of cutscenes can make good sense if for instance you allow interactivity and if the quality is good enough as this allows for more seamless transitions and the re-usage of in-game assets (so the general style is also equal between cutscenes and in-game action).

All non controlled in game engine movies are done that way. Yes even MGS4's. I noticed in MGS4 that the properly controlled in game stuff was far less impressive than the actual cutscenes. Did you not?

Gears 2 in game is pretty close to the cinematics. Plenty of proof throughout to, where the game goes from the cutscene to giving you direct control seamlessly. And you dont really notice the difference becasue it's done cleverly. Following example.

"For those wanting to know which version [of GTA 4] looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often. The slight visual edge goes to PS3....."

"2K Games went out of their way to make sure that the larger capacity of the Blu-ray was used to implement higher resolution textures across the title, as well as improve some of the in-game cutscenes. For the most part, you'll see these appear as a slightly sharper Rapture across the board, and you'll be able to pick up some features that look better than on the 360, such as pools of water or neon signage."

Best Graphics 2008 Reader's Choice Metal Gear Solid 4

"Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots features an aging and exhausted Solid Snake in the middle of a futuristic battlefield. In spite of his failing body, Snake is equipped with a crucial new device tentatively known as "OctoCamo," a high-tech suit that dynamically transforms its texture based on Snake's surroundings. This revolutionary new gameplay mechanic allows him to seamlessly blend into the environment, providing him with the means to stalk his enemies like never before. This latest chapter in Hideo Kojima's legendary tactical espionage action series marks the return of several characters from previous Metal Gear Solid games including Revolver Ocelot, Meryl Silverburgh, Naomi Hunter and Raiden, and features an unforgettable story that depicts the desperate state of the future as seen through the eyes of an older Solid Snake."

I could go on with this but the bottom line is that Eurogamer is at odds with almost all of the interwebs. The next time somone quotes some ragtag bribe taking website to proove that 360 has better grpahics then PS3, trust me brothers it's easy to prove them wrong. Just Google best graphics and you'll find PS3 on top of the list.

BS

That comment by IGN on the PS3 graphics were based on a preview build months before final release.

The guy was obviously smoking crack because we all now know the 360 version has

1. Better AA

2. Higher screen resolution

3. Higher texture resolution

4. Higher frame rate

FACT

MikeB doing what he does best again I see...

His posts are just pure comedy.

He should give up his physio job and do a degree in english cos he writes quite convincingly, if complete nonsense. Mike you've been called out for it so many times in the past and you still persist.

NO they are not.. Gamespot runs a comparison every year and the 360 has won it every year... GTA 4 is more of an artistic opinion... they did some trade offs with the PS3 and 360 versions, but the 360 version would have been out months earlier if it wasn't a day to date console release.  As for MGS4... if you think that Kojima and his team couldn't get those kinds of graphics on the 360 you may as well go up and piss on their shoes because you're insulting their awesomeness in programming and tecturing.
