Forums - General - Afghanistan Taliban leader at Gitmo!

The Taliban's new top operations officer in southern Afghanistan had been a prisoner at the Guantanamo Bay detention center, the latest example of a freed detainee who took a militant leadership role and a potential complication for the Obama administration's efforts to close the prison. U.S. authorities handed over the detainee to the Afghan government, which in turn released him, according to Pentagon and CIA officials.

And that's why we can't release them. Ever.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

Because holding on to 1 person is worth pissing off 1000 who then decide to become terrorists because they have tangible proof that America really is acting like the tyrants it claims to fight by throwing human rights to the curb.

Its also worth dragging America's reputation through the mud to the extent that our allies back out on us and provide less actual and financial military support so that we can keep 1 person in jail.

Its also worth pissing on the Constitution so that we can keep 1 person in jail.

Its also worth demoralizing our troops and citizens and making them question why they are even fighting the war in the first place so that we can keep 1 person in jail.

The Republican Party sure did think so! The voters definitely agreed with them, didn't they!

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

The only reputation getting dragged through the mud is the "release them crowd's"

It's finally being proved how foolish that was and how dangerous these people are.

Though I have to admit, not executing them and instead releasing them so they can go back to their terrorist ways is demoralizing. And foolish.

You, Stalin, Mao, Saddam Hussein, and Kim Jong-Il would probably get along pretty well.

Well, the released ones have already been caught before.

So if you're that concerned, next time they're caught, shoot them rather than arrest them.

Link, when was he freed?
Link, proof that he was the leader?
Link, proof that he is a danger to the American people?
Link, proof that the constitution is a danger to the American way of life?

Prove and I will discuss.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Abdullah Ghulam Rasoul, formerly Guantanamo prisoner No. 008, was among 13 Afghan prisoners released to the Afghan government in December 2007. Rasoul is now known as Mullah Abdullah Zakir, a nom de guerre that Pentagon and intelligence officials say is used by a Taliban leader who is in charge of operations against U.S. and Afghan forces in southern Afghanistan.

Why was he released? If only there was a law against lying.

"I want to go back home and join my family and work in my land and help my family," he said, according to a U.S. military transcript of the hearing.

So he is supposed to do your work for you now? Not only are you a bad arguer, you are a lazy arguer too! For shame!

LOL, that's not proof of anything but my first request.

I'm requesting:
Proof of guilt.
Proof of continuing danger.
Proof that his imprisonment is more important than the constitution or human rights in general.

And you're right to ask me to research it. I probably would argue YOUR POINT better than you. Just because I could, doesn't mean it's right though.

The burden of proof is on the accuser under the U.S. legal system...  What do you want the U.S. to turn into, France?

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an Liberalism binge.

I think I may have a new quote.
