Because the PS3 is nothing like the PS1 and PS2.

In that, people are fanboys for a reason. That large userbase is very attractive to a large developer.
I'm excited for the game, don't get me wrong, but it's still surprising to see the PS3 get another exclusive JRPG.

No i disagree, The Atelier series is very much still a japanese thing its very popular in japan not so much in the west, we got are first taste on the PS2 while japans been playin since the SNES days. so if gust wants to make a new HD Atelier PS3 is the best choice because of the bigger fanbase in japan where its most likely going to sell the most.
