Forums - General - Sony: rootkit, round 2

Which leads me to wonder what the heck they were thinking about using any sort of cloaking techniques at all, even if it wasn't for the same purpose. You'd think that they would be super aware of things like this and make sure it didn't happen again...

Did they think they can get away with it this time or that the rootkit won't get discover?

Are they malware makers themselves and trying to promote them?

Did they plan that, as soon as the name of rootkit and malwares get more notorious, computer users would fear that P2P sharing will infect their computer and will get a legitimate copy?

Did they plan that they would be able to catch someone and create an example, then through that making the piraters who aren't techno enough to understand or know that there are rootkits hidden in the products fear so then they would stop pirating? (Actually, I'm not techno enough either to understand how rootkits work or that Sony would be able to catch someone with that)

But honestly, I wouldnt' be surprise if rumors like the above floating around.

Off-topic: What happened to the "VGchartz...Hacked?" thread? Did the hackers block it?

Sony has a real issue with etiquette. Sony really needs to develop a strong software philosophy. They need to start placing a higher premium on consumer security. Do no harm to hardware performance. Learn to make their programming easier to deal with and more importantly gain customer consent. Finally they need to start programming for self contained blocks.

All are issues I have personally had with their software. Every time I have installed a Sony product on my PC. I have had to fend off spy ware. Never got asked if I would like it, and the reasons are so vague it is ridiculous. Security enough said good luck finding piece of mind.

What can be said Sony has had me manually delete files they sent to me that caused issues. Their programs have serious issues with bleed. I uninstall a program eight months later I trip over a piece of code left over. What the hell is this advertisement doing here. Why the hell did they send me a instruction manual for Japan. Why the hell do I still have beta error reports on my machine?

I will not even go through the hardware hell my Vaio put me through.

I think it can be summed up this way:

As bad as MS is at making hardware, Sony is even worse at making software. All you have to do is follow the tech industry and you'll find report after report of Sony f***ing up another piece of software. It's terrible.
