Forums - Gaming - What is with the hostility of PC gamers towards console gamers?

PC gaming is cheaper than PS360 gaming. You'll save money from the games since they're much cheaper.

WHAT?! Don't even think of comparing Consoles' variety to PC's. PC CRUSHES consoles in terms of variety.

Of course it is cheaper.  A neat feature of PC gaming is piracy.  You don't ever have to pay for a gem in your life, right?  Just spend $1000+ and you are set for life, right?  So, that is $600 more than gaming with consoles, if not more.  So, after you pirate around 10 games, you are ALL SET and saving a bunch of money.  And why not talk Wii games?  Isn't it the same?  Gaming is cheaper on a PC, particularly factoring in piracy.  Well, you don't get the waggle.  But anything using a waggle controller isn't a real game, is it shio?  We all know REAL games that are REAL games use mouse and keyboard controls, right? So, technically, consoles don't play REAL games, because they don't use mouse and keyboard, right?

Spoken like a true ignorant. PC gaming is cheaper for a "hardcore" gamer because PC games ARE cheaper - they often come out at $40, $30, $20 instead of $50, and PC games drop price much faster than the rest. I just bought World of Goo for $5 on Steam, how's the Wii version priced?

I didn't mention piracy, and your argument says more about you than about me...

Interestingly, most PC gamers seem to look at the Wii with positive eyes, including myself. I think the Wii is a great complement for the PC.

Another reason for PC hostility is that since the X-Box has come out Microsoft has been smart to bring games over from the PC world onto the Console. Now it's getting to the point where they wont even bother to bring out a PC version. That's gotta cause some resentment for PC gamers who spend tons of money on a rig only to find they don't get any support.

You're talking about the few 3/4 games made by Microsoft? Hardly a loss, especially considering that most of MS's console games are from the top PC genres, in which PC has more and better games than those.

and you get sweet deals for PC games too with Steam for example.

To the pc elitist games like rts and fps cannot ever be duplicated on consoles because of the inherent flaw in said machines control schemes, (though this has been proven wrong with games such as Herzog Zwei and Pikmin representing the rts genre and the Wii remote showing promise for fps control).

Call me a pc elitist if you want, but RTS will never be duplicated on consoles. So developers should even try.

Well, you think they won't.  If there is suddenly an RTS controller for consoles, then why wouldn't it happen?

They keep trying because there are enough consoles out there to try to target them.

Can we stop trying to insist that PCs cost $1000+? It just isn't true, a capable PC can be built for ~$500 or less. Even less if you already have a case/psu.

So everybody would have to buy a whole new controller to play them and all further RTS games would have to be designed around that controller?

It better be as successful as something like Guitar Hero then, unless of course they can somehow manage having the controller+game combo not being too expensive.

If, for some chance, you own a PC that can play all the latest games, and do it right, then you have a point.  HOWEVER, as it is now, I don't need new hardware to do ANYTHING now, outside to play games.  So, I drop down $1000+ for a rig that would be able to play the latest games in a decent manner.  So, that means I am now out $600+ more than if I went the console route.

How many games does one have to buy for this initial cost differential to be offset?

yeah an RTS controller for consoles with a build-in mouse. That's cheating

From a personal perspective, I gave up on PC gaming because of the continual need to upgrade, the fact that games have to be patched and updated (they don't come in a ready-to-run-forever form) and the inability to play older games.

Unfortunately, console gaming is starting down that same road. That lack of quality control could lead to a lot of people looking elsewhere for their entertainment.

Check the prices there for 2009.  The idea is to get a machine dedicated to PC gaming.

If you want to talk parts alone, and you assemble it yourself.  Good luck getting tech support for that.

Basically, you can argue you save money, IF the computer you own is able to play games capably.  Games are an added bonus.
