Forums - General - What is your view on the "Meaning of Existence"?

-----------Reason For Existence-Leftover Crack---------

What's your reason for existence?
Do you believe in anything?
Or does your lifestyle contradict
The words you write the songs you sing?

Are you happy in your work
As you protest about the unemployed?
You don't wanna work but you need the money
The reality you can't avoid

But do you wanna work
Do you wanna work
Do you really wanna work for the money?
Do you wanna work
Do you wanna work
Do you really wanna work for the system?

Are you happy as you vote
To keep the parasites alive?
You don't want to vote but you think you should
They said it was right and you never asked why

But do you wanna vote
Do you wanna vote
Do you really wanna vote for your conscience?
Do you want to vote
Do you wanna vote
Do you really wanna vote for the system?

Are you happy signing up
In the army just to get some pay?
Fighting a war without cause
Can you manage to ignore your self-decay?

But do you wanna fight
Do you wanna fight
Do you really wanna die for your country?
Do you wanna fight
Do you wanna fight
Do you really wanna die for the system?
NO!!!

You're their reason for existence
They use you to finance their state
The words you shout with such conviction
Is it the only way to express your hate?

There's a meaning for my life. I don't know about anyone elses'. Good luck with trying to find a singular meaning to generalize everyone in. After that you may want to get cracking on other generalizations like what everyone's favorite album, game, film, book, etc. is since we are all one singular entity and not individuals.

Your answers on this forum will be skewed. Video games are primarily an escapist medium, and everyone on this forum is obsessed with video games. Most are hiding from the real world. I only recently realized I was. I would surmise that most here will say that life has no meaning.

I say you create your own meaning. Perhaps read some famous western literature that struggle with the meaning of live. I recommend Candide (by french author Voltaire) and Tess of the Durberville's (by Thomas Hardy)

Both essentially say that life has whatever meaning you decide it has. I think Hardy might have thought life was meaningless and crushing others was your best bet for personal happiness as long as the people you are controlling don't realize it.

I've thought a lot about this and I've decided that it's just based on your perspective of life.

For example, up until a few weeks ago, I was a hardcore Christian, and believed that my purpose in life was to serve God.

Then, some stuff happened and I began to realize that maybe I should decide for myself what I believe rather than just accept what my parents have told me my whole life. So now, I don't really know if there is a purpose in life, except to have fun.

Or, as one of my friends put it, "The purpose in life is to make babies."

In case any of you are wondering, I'm still Christian, but we'll see where life takes me next. I'm just kinda waiting to get outta this town to figure out what I want to do with my life.

EDIT: Aww, Hawkeye beat me by less than a minute. ;_;

@Onyxmeth come on, i am just asking for beliefs in general. i am not saying that everyone is the same, I am asking for individual beliefs. Now that was just pointless.

Personally, I think our purpose is to choose and to influence our world. What you choose is up to you. My choice doesn't matter for the context of this thread. Obviously one of my choices has been to be successful, but I also choose to find the patterns and themes in everything, to learn how to switch between being extroverted and interverted at will, to understand why people do what they do and the causes behind everything. I would also say I am a strong Christian.

I believe that I should shape the world in a positive way according to fundamental principles of humanity, rather than just my morals as it is possible that my morals are not correct. I don't believe we specifically have to do anything. Other peoples choices (even dead people) influence our own choices, but ultimatly, we decide our own fate. Indecently, I believe God already knows what we have chosen, but doesn't decide for us.

People in war torn countries are still free to make choices. The difference for them is that other people's choices effectively limits their own choices.

No it wasn't pointless. You are asking for one meaning of existence that fits all people. I'm telling you I don't think such a thing exists because individuals are not the same. This is why we have different thoughts, tastes, etc. Machines have singular meanings to their existence. Humans do not.

The meaning for my existence is my daughter. Now that's not the meaning of your existence because my daughter is not your daughter, you may not find a child to be worthwhile to explain your existence, etc. so it only fits me. If what you want is something some bearded guy typed up in the clouds that was inspiration for creating humans, then I cannot help you. We are here on Earth because the atmosphere can support life. We are where we are today because we've advanced as a species over time. We think about things like "meanings of existence" because we have the capacity to think it, but if there were some such universal meaning I guarantee no one is intelligent enough to understand it the same way that you can't explain the latest episode of Lost to your dog and expect him to understand it.

Find what has meaning in your life and look into that. Normally when people ask a question like this is because they feel confused about their own life and try to shoehorn that onto everybody. The same way you wouldn't ask me to pick your favorite movie or book, there's no reason to ask me (and everybody else) what the meaning of your existence is.
